Phenomenal player until disc "reading" issues began.

I purchased this player in 2019 and the picture quality was as the title suggests, phenomenal. It worked perfectly with my LG OLED display, using high end Audio Quest HDMI cables. By 2023, both Blu Ray and 4K discs would freeze and pixelate. Once I upgraded the firmware to the current 1.76 version, these issues went away. A few months later, select 4K discs whether Dolby Vision or HDR10 would prompt the player to display an error message during "reading" and say, "Cannot read disc, check disc". At first, simply ejecting the disc and reloading it would clear the message and the disc would play. Now, the player will not read the disc at all. I played the discs in my father's Panasonic DB-UB420 4K player and they work just fine. This of course is very frustrating giving the cost of the unit and since it's out of warranty, the cost for potential repairs is insult to injury. The unit, since it was installed, has been operated in a closed server rack with the back door removed so the fans in between the units can exhaust any heat buildup through the rear and top of the server rack. There has been no abuse to the unit and not a single scratch is on it. Through various forums, I've learned there are many other owners of the 9000 that experience the same issues. I am currently in the process of looking for a replacement however I see no need to replace it with another 9000 unit which is a shame since this was such a great player for the first few years of ownership.

    I gave this unit a…

    Best 4K player around!

Having a 70” 4K TV felt like overkill for my streaming and YouTube enjoyment. I then decided to get a more “economy” 4K UHD player from Sony (~$300) but it didn’t feel like much of an upgrade from streaming services. The image was fine for the most part, but for some reason it had some nasty chromatic aberration in high contrast scenes.

I was a bit skeptical to get this $1000+ 4K UHD player, but I took a leap and the decision was worth it! No more nasty chromatic aberration, and the sound (especially the bass frequency) sounds even better on my basic JBL soundbar. I know I could hook up all sorts of audio equipment to this, but even with the soundbar it sounds amazing.

There are reviews out there that complain about the streaming interface. I don’t use the streaming features since my TV already has them, but overall I highly recommend this reference player. The metal build quality is excellent as well—not like the plastic build or the Sony I tried.
