THE BARIKAN Brand Story

From Japan, THE BARIKAN – Born for Barbers

"Barikan" is the Japanese word for “hair clipper".

In the late 1800s, hair clippers from the French company Bariquand et Marre arrived in Japan. A part of the company’s name was mistakenly adopted as the name of the tool itself, and thus "Barikan" became a uniquely Japanese term. This moment marked a turning point in Japanese barbering culture, sparking modernization and innovation.

THE BARIKAN is the ultimate tool for barbers, born from over 40 years of Panasonic's continuous evolution of electric hair clippers, refining cutting performance, quality, and usability.
