TH-42PZ85U is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Six years of reliable service so far - TH-42PZ85U Bought this TV about a month after manufacture date in 2008 after it was returned and offered at a discount online. Has been a great TV with an excellent picture and relatively easy controls. Not a smart TV but able to easily stream Netflix and Amazon through an inexpensive Blu-Ray player. Plenty of HDMI inputs. able to accommodate a Blu-Ray player, a DVD/VCR combo deck, and a computer. Used to watch a lot of HD DVDs but now we stream a lot more and are very satisfied with the performance of this unit.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Repeated problem, won't turn on Am disappointed with this expensive TV. While normally the TV operates great and has a good picture quality, but once in a while it won't power up, the power is at the TV but the Power Supply LED light blinks 2 times repeatedly, indicating that 15V SOS board is bad. This happens about 2-3 times per year, luckily after 2-3 days, it will turn back on. Am patiently waiting now. Panasonic knows about this problem; I did a Google search, there are many identical complaints about it

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Plasma exceeds LCD anyday I am a loyal Panasonic customer. Had a 29" Panasonic PanaBlack Panaturbo before this. Did about 2 months of research on the pros and cons of Plasma vs LCD. Opened the box in December '08 and it was the best Christmas present I could have gotten. Immediately blown away by the clarity of the picture and I have not hooked up a blu-ray player as yet. Ironman, Transformers and Batman DVD's were just amazing on this set. Will be picking up the Blu-ray player within a month. The more friends and family I visit who also have HD TV's the more convinced I am about the unbelievable quality of this set. Viewing angles are tremendous have my Wii hooked up to the set and anyone can follow Rockband's notes no matter where they are in the TV Room. Digital cable looks amazing on this set and the clarity is out of this world. Have not had a problem with sunlight affecting the view but then again my blinds are usually drawn. Heat generated from the screen of the set takes some getting used to, but the fans more than ensure it does not affect the operation of the unit. Have had this set on for 18hours continuous without a problem. Only wished the remote was as comprehensive as the PanaTurbo's. That remote was truly a universal remote with controls for at least 7 devices while the PZ85U can only operate 4 devices. Strange the receiver was not included on the list of critical devices as you would not purchase a TV of this caliber to use the on-board speakers for anything other than watching the news. Devices hooked up to the PZ85U are a Panasonic DVD/CD 5 disc changer F-65, a Panasonic AV Receiver SA HT-280 and a Wii. Will give a follow-up review once the Blu-rayis hooked up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great TV The amount of inputs available are amazing. I have my PS3 and XBOX elite on HDMI. I also have my Wii and my laptop plugged in. So far the TV has been with us for a year. HD channels coming in great. I really need to upgrade to a full HD service. Cons: I don't have any yet. Hopefully, it doesn't die tomorrow.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best TV Purchase Ever Best quality TV I have ever purchased. I've bought two prior plasma sets and two prior LCD sets from various manufacturers and the Pansonic TH-42PZ85U is the best purchase I've made on a TV so far. The picture quality is on par or better than some of the top-of-the-line LCD and Plasma models from competitor's sets. Fast motion images looks incredible and Panasonic just knows how to make a plasma panel the way the should be made. The colors are almost spot on perfect, the contrast ratio is amazing, and the blacks on this set are almost "ink-like". The remote is the easiest remote I've ever used that's come with any set I've purchased and the options that Panasonic have included with this set are plentiful. The entire package is near perfection and the price for this unit are not only affordable, but downright worth every penny. Now if only I could get one of those new PZ850U models.

Owner's Manuals
  • What should I do if my TV will not turn on and the power indicator LED is not flashing?
    Follow these troubleshooting steps:
    • Make sure your TV's power cord is plugged into an electrical outlet.
    • Make sure the electrical outlet the TV is plugged into has power by testing known working device in that outlet.
    • After verifying the TV is plugged into a working outlet, try pressing the [POWER] button on the TV instead of the TV remote.
If the outlet is working and the TV will not turn on after pressing the [POWER] button on the TV, please consider having the unit serviced. Click here for Panasonic Service Locator.
  • What should I do if the front Power indicator LED light is blinking?
    1. Unplug the TV's power cord.
    2. Unplug all cables.
    3. Power the TV using a different power outlet (do not use a power strip or surge protector).

If the problem persists, consider having the TV serviced. Click here for Panasonic Service Locator.

Note: Count how many times the LED light blinks. This can help a technician troubleshoot the problem.
  • What should I do if I get audio but no picture from an external device connected to my TV?
    • Try unplugging the cable between the TV and the external device and reconnecting it firmly on both sides.
    • Try unplugging the power cord of the external device for 30 seconds.
    • Try connecting another external device to the same input using the same cable.
    • If the picture returns on the second device, you may need to contact the manufacturer of the first external device you had connected for further troubleshooting.
    • Try using a different cable between your device and the TV using the same input of your TV. If you get a picture and audio, you may need to replace your cable.
    • Try another input of the TV to verify if there is an issue with the TV input the external device was connected to.
  • What should I do if I have bars displaying on the TV screen?
Change the format (aspect ratio) of the picture by pressing the [FORMAT] or [ASPECT] button on the TV's remote control. If you still have bars, check the aspect settings on your external video source, such as Cable/Satellite box, DVD/Blu-ray Disc player, etc. Note: Some content, such as film-based movies, are available in extra-wide format. Top and bottom bars are unavoidable.
