Rated 5 out of 5 by from Owner of two Viera TVs I love these Viera Plasma TVs!! Their picture quality is unparalleled and you get so much more size for the price compared to LCD TVs. I picked up my first Plasma Viera (50" P50GT25) to install in my Family Room to watch NFL playoffs a couple of years ago. I had reservations about getting a plasma and I had been satisfied with my LCD HDTV, but I couldn't beat the price for the size of the TV so I gave it a try. The picture quality blew me away! Football and every other TV experience is so much better on a plasma and Panasonic's Viera TVs have amazing color, depth and texture (I'm not a techie, so I don't know the technical terms for these things). So, as expected, this TV looks just as beautiful and I'm quite pleased with the price. I actually purchased it from panasonic.com over Black Friday weekend. While it's 5" larger than my previous Viera model, its price was a bit lower and thus has fewer extras. The question isn't if you should buy a Viera TV, it's which model you should buy. Keep the following things in mind when looking to buy this model (P55UT50): *Inputs - there are only 2 HDMI connections and one Component Video SHARED with standard A/V connection (a total of 3 inputs, which wasn't clear to me when reading the specifications - fortunately I don't need more) *Base doesn't swivel - this TV should be wall mounted (see below) *Power cord - this power cord is at least a 1-1/2 ft shorter than my previous model. I don't know if cord length varies by model, but keep this in mind and plan for it if you are going to mount your TV. I have a full motion TV wall mount that extends 32" out from the wall. The shorter power cord was a problem. I had to use the power cord from my previous model (luckily an option for me) *Do you own a Wii? - mounting the Wii sensor bar was... challenging. This TV comes with a "decorative" clear border around the frame. The Wii sensor bar cannot be mounted behind the clear part of the frame (I tried, and there's interference), so you must mount it above the clear border (did I mention it's rounded?). The answer for me was to use enough double-stick foam tape to sort of build a platform for the Wii sensor to sit on. The foam tape platform starts right behind the decorative clear frame on the TV itself and is built up to the hight of the clear border. I mounted the Wii sensor on top of the clear frame (so the Wii sensor is sitting on both the clear frame and the foam platform and is flush with the front of the TV). The end result is it looks fine and operates properly (phew!) The above comments in no way detract from my satisfaction with this TV - just plan ahead (especially for the power cord and the number of inputs).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Back in Black Every positive comment you have heard about this HDTV is true, this is my first plasma and 1080p set and i am no videophile with trained eye but i do know what looks good and what does not, the UT50 has an awesome picture, the image is crystal clear, the colors are vibrant and life like, skin tones and shading are exceptional, when you get the set calibrated to your liking you will start to notice all these different colors and the detail that the best BluRay Movies have to offer, i didn't buy this set because it has 3D as the 3D is barely passable BUT it has the juiced up graphics processing power required for 3D imagery and that just makes the 2D image that much better. If you want 3D then look to the ST and beyond but the smart money buys the UT as it has the same PQ and (within 99.9%) and it has the advanced calibration menu like the ST, thje one it does not share with the ST50 is the louvre filter, the louvre filter is designed to reduce glare in bright rooms, that's all fine and dandy but Movies and Plasma HDTV's in particular have always been designed to be viewed in a controlled environment aka low to no-light conditions, the use od a louvre filter is to band-aid an issue that should not exist in the first place, the louvre filter also reduces the viewing angle which the plasma is famous for, this is just one of several reasons i decided to upgrade from the U50 but stay below the ST50, when the lights go down there is no louvre filter required and if you want the ultimate Home Theater experience then drape the walls behind and beside the set to blacken the background,when the lights go down the image appears to float on the wall with nothing around it, could not be more happy and with time i will only make improvements to the already outstanding HDTV. I do have 1 minor annoyance and that is the lack of a swivel base and don't let me hear you complain about only 2 HDMI Ports, the average Joe only uses an XBOX360 or similar and a DVD (hopefully Bluray) player which only requires 2 HDMI slots so why all the fuss over a mid-range set with top-shelf picture quality, the UT50 will please most of the people most of the time and i always tell the truth..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic TV. TV looks amazing. Meets and EXCEEDS every expectation that I had. Even the sound on this this TV is great, that came as a big surprise. The picture is perfect at any time of day, in pretty much any lighting situation, and when I play Call Of Duty, this thing REALLY shows what it can do. The Game mode eliminates ALL lag, and in Vivid mode with motion smoother turned on low, it's like looking out an extremely clear window. If you're on the fence about this television, don't be, it's worth hundreds more than what it's being sold for.

  • What should I do if the front Power indicator LED light is blinking?
    1. Unplug the TV's power cord.
    2. Unplug all cables.
    3. Power the TV using a different power outlet (do not use a power strip or surge protector).

  • What should I do if my TV will not turn on and the power indicator LED is not flashing?
    Follow these troubleshooting steps:

    • Make sure your TV's power cord is plugged into an electrical outlet.
    • Make sure the electrical outlet the TV is plugged into has power by testing known working device in that outlet.
    • After verifying the TV is plugged into a working outlet, try pressing the [POWER] button on the TV instead of the TV remote.
    If the outlet is working and the TV will not turn on after pressing the [POWER] button on the TV, please consider having the unit serviced.

  • I can access other Apps on my TV, but cannot access Netflix. How can I fix this?
    Symptoms:
    • When the Netflix app is selected, the Netflix splash screen appears, then Netflix closes and returns to the VIERA Cast home screen, Network Services screen, or HOME screen.
    • When the Netflix app is selected, "Unable to Connect to Netflix. Please Try Again Later" is displayed
    • Netflix can be accessed, but when a title is selected, "Unable to Play This Title Right Now. Please Try Again Later" is displayed.
    • Netflix can be accessed, a title can be selected, but during playback the picture blanks out, buffers, or freezes frequently.

    Additional Information:
    • Network applications on Panasonic products are only accessible on networks with high speed internet access.

    Suggested Solution:
    • Power the Netflix ready device on and allow at least 90 seconds for it to connect to the network before performing a Connection Test.
    • Once the Connection Test has passed, attempt to open the Netflix application. If the Netflix application fails to open, manually change the Primary DNS settings to 8.8.8.8 and the Secondary DNS to 8.8.4.4. If there is only one DNS setting available, change it to 8.8.8.8 (click here for a TV network troubleshooting tutorial.)
    • Once the DNS has been changed, perform another Connection Test.
    • Once the Connection Test has passed, attempt to open the Netflix application.
    • If none of your applications can be accessed, unplug the power cord of your modem or router for at least 10 seconds.This will reboot your modem or router.
    • If the Netflix application still fails to open, try another network application. If other applications function properly but Netflix does not click here for Netflix Help Center or call Netflix customer support at 1-866-716-0414.

  • The power light on the TV is on steady, but I do not have a picture, sound or both?
    This could be caused by a few factors:

    First check to ensure your TV is selected to the correct input (Source). If you are watching cable or satellite, following the cable from that device to the back of your TV.
    If it is connected to antenna, HDMI 1/2/3, component or video you must also have the TV input select to match that connection. On the remote push the input button to check what source is selected on your TV.
    Very important, you must ensure your cable box or satellite unit is turned on.
    On some cable and satellite boxes, you may get audio with no picture if the box is turned off. If this does not resolve your issue, you may require service.

  • How do I label my TV inputs?
    If you wish to label your television inputs such as TV, Cable, DVD, Satellite, etc please consult your operating instructions for exact mapping. Generally, these setting are located in the menu, under submenu “Setup”. Most TVs come with a preprogrammed list of options that can be selected.

  • Some of my TV inputs or the Label are greyed out or missing, how do I activate them?
    If you are missing a input selection or it is greyed out, most likely it has been selected to “Not Used” in the Menu, under the submenu “Setup” under “ Edit Labels. Consult your operating instructions for the exact mapping for your television.

  • How can I tell if my Plasma TV is able to connect to the internet or is a smart TV?
    Many of our Plasma TVs are equipped with the ability to access internet apps. A quick way to check to see if your television has internet capability is to check the menu and look for a submenu label “Network” If you do not have this menu selection, unfortunately your model is not a smart TV.
