First was color, then HD.
Now get ready for the third wave – Full HD 3D

Tremendous developments have driven TV technologies from the 20th century until today. Among them, color TV and high definition (HD) TV were two major advances. Progress was achieved in recording media as well, from tape to DVD, and then to Blu-ray Disc™, with Panasonic constantly leading the way in both TV technologies and recording media. Now, Panasonic presents a third breakthrough in the form of Full HD 3D – and totally redefines image realism – with advanced image technologies that aim to bring more lifelike viewing experiences to us all.

Frame Sequential Technology
Full HD Signals for Each Eye

The technology in which the left-eye and right-eye 3D images are sent to the viewer is key to the 3D image quality. For this, Full HD 3D uses something called Frame Sequential technology. First, the plasma display panel, which has a number of inherent advantages for moving picture resolution, was further advanced to allow images for each of the left and right eyes to be alternately reproduced at the rate of 60 frames per second (fps), making a total fps for both eyes. Viewers watch the images through high-precision 3D Eyewear*, which open and close the left and right shutters in synchronization with the alternating images. As a result, a separate 1920 x 1080 full-HD image is sent to each eye. This addresses the image quality problems and blurring that were common to previous 3D systems, and creates sharp, crisp 3D images.
* Included with each VIERA 3DTV is one pair of 3D Eyewear necessary to view the 3D content. To share this experience with others, additional 3D Eyewear may be purchased separately.

High-speed 3D Drive Technology
Greater Beauty for Both 2D and 3D Images

The Frame Sequential technology of Full HD 3D requires the images to be displayed at 1/120 of a second, which is twice as fast as ordinary full-HD images. If the luminescence time for each frame were simply shortened, the screen brightness would be lowered. To solve this problem, the luminescence time was shortened and the luminescence intensity was raised, which made it possible to produce bright, crisp 3D images.

Crosstalk Reduction Technology
Clear 3D Display with Minimal Afterimage

The Frame Sequential technology shortens the luminescence time for each frame. If the pixel afterglow remains unchanged, the previous image will remain as an afterimage when the next image is produced. Newly developed fast-decay R and G phosphors reduce the afterimage time to 1/3, to create crisp 3D images with no visible afterimage.

3D Eyewear*
High-Precision Shutter Control Sends Clear Images to Each Eye

Highly precise control completely closes the shutters for both eyes at the instant that the images change for the left and right eyes. This masks unwanted afterimages to enable clear and comfortable 3D viewing.*
* Included with each VIERA 3DTV is one pair of 3D Eyewear necessary to view the 3D content. To share this experience with others, additional 3D Eyewear may be purchased separately.

Infinite Black Panel Pro
Rich, Detailed Blacks

With Infinite Black Panel Pro, VIERA® HDTVs are able to display extremely robust blacks. A new panel and improvements to the cell discharge area dramatically increase contrast when viewing in brightly lit locations. And reducing the electrical pre-discharge that causes graying has greatly enhanced black gradation. As a result, deep, rich blacks are displayed in virtually any viewing area, from living rooms to bedrooms. Even in dark film scenes, clothing textures and individual strands of hair are clearly reproduced.

THX® Certified Display
Real film experience

THX® reproduces film images as the filmmakers intended them. The overall aim was to improve the experience of cinema-goers and faithfully recreate the audio and visual ambience that filmmakers intended. To receive THX® certification, TVs undergo stringent tests to determine, for example, whether the exact same brightness and color are displayed at all screen locations, and whether black levels satisfy standard criteria. VIERA® meets the high standards set by the THX® Certified Display Program.

600Hz Sub-field Drive*
Crisp, clear moving pictures

600Hz technology lets you view superb full-HD motion and still images with 1,080 lines of resolution. For even greater clarity with motion images, Panasonic uses its own unique image-analysis technology. This technology converts the motion in each scene into dots. And each frame is practically displayed for a shorter length of time than in previous systems, to reduce aftereffects.

*When using cinema mode.

VIERA Image Viewer™

It's easy to view full-HD images with the SD card slot. Watch and show your photos and motion images right after you take them. Simply insert an SD Memory Card into your VIERA HDTV to display photos and full-HD videos on the large screen. You can also choose from among 5 types of background music and 5 display effects. TC-P50VT20 is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from New owner I would recommend this to anyone buying a new plasma TV, for the picture is very fine. The sound level a little lower than I expected, but I use a preamp to watch movies in surround sound 7.1.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Pleased The picture quality is awesome, bright vivid colors and deep blacks. 3D is very good as well. VieraLink is an added feature I did not expect, with it's HDMI linking to my Onkyo receiver, it simplifies remote control operation by not needing the Onkyo remote.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from first time plasma owner I kept hearing Plasma's out LCD/LED is in so i kept researching TV reviews & visiting my local BestBuy to decide what was i gonna upgrade to? I came across the P50VT20/25 which was 2010 best 3D TV. Even though 2011 models are coming out now i picked up this model considered open box (missing remote) but was brand new never opened so i got it at a major bargain.. oh yea the guys at bestbuy gave me a used remote for this model anyway so thanks dudes! Now once i got it hooked up i saw Tron Legacy 3D the first night and was stuck on how good the picture quality was so i threw on KillZone3D for PS3 let me just say if your into gaming 3D is ridiculous on this TV. the first night after using it i shut it off & noticed a little burn but i knew the newer models have filters for the phosphors so im not surprised, it went away pretty quick. i can imagine what Panasonic has in store for 2011?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Close to, but not perfect. This screen is solidly built, although some clicks from termal expansion/contraction are heard (but not too distracting). Superb black levels and color reproduction. Hd looks amazing and 24p support is great for blue ray watching. Couple of issues, however: buzzing of the screen (plasma technology) and 3D issues - contrary to the claims by Panasonic this screen is not ghost/crosstalk/double image free in the 3D mode. Though it is so much better than the other manufacturers it still has some noticeable crosstalk. Also still no Netflix support (been promised by the end of July) as of August 22

  • I can access other Apps on my TV, but cannot access Netflix. How can I fix this?
    Symptoms:
    • When the Netflix app is selected, the Netflix splash screen appears, then Netflix closes and returns to the VIERA Cast home screen, Network Services screen, or HOME screen.
    • When the Netflix app is selected, "Unable to Connect to Netflix. Please Try Again Later" is displayed
    • Netflix can be accessed, but when a title is selected, "Unable to Play This Title Right Now. Please Try Again Later" is displayed.
    • Netflix can be accessed, a title can be selected, but during playback the picture blanks out, buffers, or freezes frequently.

    Additional Information:
    • Network applications on Panasonic products are only accessible on networks with high speed internet access.

    Suggested Solution:
    • Power the Netflix ready device on and allow at least 90 seconds for it to connect to the network before performing a Connection Test.
    • Once the Connection Test has passed, attempt to open the Netflix application. If the Netflix application fails to open, manually change the Primary DNS settings to 8.8.8.8 and the Secondary DNS to 8.8.4.4. If there is only one DNS setting available, change it to 8.8.8.8 (click here for a TV network troubleshooting tutorial.)
    • Once the DNS has been changed, perform another Connection Test.
    • Once the Connection Test has passed, attempt to open the Netflix application.
    • If none of your applications can be accessed, unplug the power cord of your modem or router for at least 10 seconds. This will reboot your modem or router.
    • If the Netflix application still fails to open, try another network application. If other applications function properly but Netflix does not click here for Netflix Help Center or call Netflix customer support at 1-866-716-0414.

  • The power light on the TV is on steady, but I do not have a picture, sound or both?
This could be caused by a few factors:

First check to ensure your TV is selected to the correct input (Source). If you are watching cable or satellite, following the cable from that device to the back of your TV.
If it is connected to antenna, HDMI 1/2/3, component or video you must also have the TV input select to match that connection. On the remote push the input button to check what source is selected on your TV.
Very important, you must ensure your cable box or satellite unit is turned on.
On some cable and satellite boxes, you may get audio with no picture if the box is turned off. If this does not resolve your issue, you may require service.
