Reviews

TC-P50ST50 is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from So Far So Good I spent a lot of time researching this purchase. I chose this model based on reviews, store display and needs...I watch mostly sports and movies. I wanted to test various modes...hockey on looked great the white of the ice and uniforms were not washed out and blacks in the uniforms looked deep and rich. A movie from a DVR looked great in Standard mode. The mini series Band of Brothers DVD, which I've seen many on SDTV looked so much better. I streamed Netflix over Wi-Fi. Initially, I had problems with 4.5 mbps connection but at 16 mbps the picture just popped. I was truly impressed. I am looking for forward to watch a Blue Ray disc on this set.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good tv, but... Got it on sale from Sears for a great price. quite happy with the picture quality and the 3d works fine but that wasn't particularly important to me just a fun novelty. The main problem I have is while using the built in apps specifically netflix you are unable to switch the aspect ratio. The main reason I bought this tv was the fact it was a smart tv. My children like to watch various cartoons on netflix but most of them are older 4:3 content and not being able to switch the aspect ratio on a plasma is just plain bad. I've been careful to leave the contrast and brightness down around 50 most of the time other than when watching fullscreen non stationary signals. But in the few weeks I've had the tv it has started to develop some image retention from the 4:3 content. So now I am buying a streaming box to give my tv the functionality it already has but I'll be able to change the aspect ratio as well as the other anti-image retention features which are locked while using the built in apps. I truly hope this issue could be addressed with a firmware/app update as it is the only thing holding this TV back for me at least.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best bang for the buck Purchased our ST30 December 2011. Now one year old and no problems to date. Very happy with the picture quality. Speakers are adequate, I wasn't expecting theater quality sound from built in speakers. We don't use 3-D or the Viera Connect so I can't comment but Blue Ray videos played on a Panasonic player look great to me. 3D glasses are not included and be forewarned, the active shutter type required for this set are very expensive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No complaints Picture quality is great. The options and menu is easy to understand. The wireless internet setup and connection was a bit hairy and took several tries, but once it worked, it has been great. I streamed an HD movie from Amazon and the quality and playback was better than I thought. The 3D performance is good as well, but it is much better with the content that is already in 3D. The 2D to 3D conversion is not as good; I wouldn't watch it because of eye fatigue after a few minutes. But I can watch an entire 3D Blu-Ray with no problem of eye strain.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointed I recently wanted to purchase a new television, so I started searching the review/opinion sections on the web, so I could find a quality TV at a reasonable price. One site that I review often is Cnet. They had a fantastic review of the Panasonics TC-P50ST50. In fact, they gave it the Editor's Choice award for all TV's they reviewed for the month of March 2012. I decided to go into a few stores and talk to the sales people about this particular TV. They had very good things to say about Panasonic plasma TV's in general. While in the stores, I looked at the various TV's and I noticed that the ST50 and U50 models had a "grainy" pixel look on their screens compared to other TV's of a similar, or less expensive price range. I also noticed that anytime small words/numbers would appear on the screen, they looked blurred, or "fuzzy" compared to other TV's. I just attributed this clarity issue to the contrast and sharpness not being properly set up by the sales people. Overall, as stated in several reviews, the dark colors on these TV's really are vivid and in a dark room this would look outstanding. I opted to buy the TV and when I turned it on and started to set it up at home, I noticed the same "grainy" pixel look on the screen that I initially noticed in the store #Even while playing Blu Ray movies at home nothing changes#. I tried every adjustment possible and it has not improved. Additionally, the TV sits on a stand near a wall and it emits a buzzing noise from the rear. This noise reflects off the wall and when the volume is low, the noise is very annoying. #I'm glad that I opted not to mount it onto the wall# I have owned this TV for a couple of months now and I'm disappointed with my purchase. I know I made the decision to buy this TV, so I accept responsibility for my choice knowing that there might be a picture quality issue compared to other TV's of equal, or lesser expense. I would not recommend this TV to other consumers not only based on the issues motioned above, but also on the lack of HDMI inputs #3instead of the customary 4#and the blurred picture during fast movement, which is supposed to be corrected by the motion smoother option #fr some reason it does not work as it was intended on my TV#

  • I can access other Apps on my TV, but cannot access Netflix. How can I fix this?
    Symptoms:
    • When the Netflix app is selected, the Netflix splash screen appears, then Netflix closes and returns to the VIERA Cast home screen, Network Services screen, or HOME screen.
    • When the Netflix app is selected, "Unable to Connect to Netflix. Please Try Again Later" is displayed
    • Netflix can be accessed, but when a title is selected, "Unable to Play This Title Right Now. Please Try Again Later" is displayed.
    • Netflix can be accessed, a title can be selected, but during playback the picture blanks out, buffers, or freezes frequently.

    Additional Information:
    • Network applications on Panasonic products are only accessible on networks with high speed internet access.

    Suggested Solution:
    • Power the Netflix ready device on and allow at least 90 seconds for it to connect to the network before performing a Connection Test.
    • Once the Connection Test has passed, attempt to open the Netflix application. If the Netflix application fails to open, manually change the Primary DNS settings to 8.8.8.8 and the Secondary DNS to 8.8.4.4. If there is only one DNS setting available, change it to 8.8.8.8 (click here for a TV network troubleshooting tutorial.)
    • Once the DNS has been changed, perform another Connection Test.
    • Once the Connection Test has passed, attempt to open the Netflix application.
    • If none of your applications can be accessed, unplug the power cord of your modem or router for at least 10 seconds. This will reboot your modem or router.
    • If the Netflix application still fails to open, try another network application. If other applications function properly but Netflix does not click here for Netflix Help Center or call Netflix customer support at 1-866-716-0414.

  • The power light on the TV is on steady, but I do not have a picture, sound or both?
This could be caused by a few factors:

First check to ensure your TV is selected to the correct input (Source). If you are watching cable or satellite, following the cable from that device to the back of your TV.
If it is connected to antenna, HDMI 1/2/3, component or video you must also have the TV input select to match that connection. On the remote push the input button to check what source is selected on your TV.
Very important, you must ensure your cable box or satellite unit is turned on.
On some cable and satellite boxes, you may get audio with no picture if the box is turned off. If this does not resolve your issue, you may require service.
