Picture Quality

Enjoy the Ultimate 3D Experience

Active Shutter Progressive 3D Method

The display alternately shows images for the left and right eyes. The left and right lenses of the eyewear open and close in sync with this display timing to show separate images to the left and right eyes. By repeating this action at high speed, the brain perceives 3D images. And because this method displays FULL HD 3D images just as they are, both eyes receive 3D images in high, full-HD quality.

* 3D Eyewear is required for viewing 3D images.

Panasonic 'FULL HD 3D' is defined as follows:

  • Compatible with 1,080p 3D signal
  • Panel has native resolution of 1,920 x 1,080p display

Crisp, Clear Moving Pictures

2,500 Focused Field Drive

This original Panasonic technology detects image movements like the human eye, and optimizes the drive accordingly. By achieving instantaneously powerful light emission rather than finely divided emission, it reduces the afterimages that cause blurring. As a result, fast movement is reproduced with excellent clarity.

Deeper Blacks Even in Bright Rooms

Infinite Black Pro

Enhancements to the panel and cells help reproduce images with smooth, natural gradation and deep, rich blacks - even when viewed in bright surroundings. In movies, the true, deep blacks faithfully convey the intent of the filmmakers, adding power and realism to the viewing experience.

Richer Black Details

24,576 Equivalent Steps of Gradation

Even highly nuanced black images in dark areas that were previously impossible to express are now rendered with incredible fidelity. Finer light emission due to a newly developed drive technology raises the steps of gradation by as much as four times over previous systems. Nighttime skies and other dark areas that were prone to blocked shadows are beautifully reproduced.

* When using Cinema mode.

Color Reproduction Faithful to the Original

1,080p Pure Direct

The 1,080p Pure Direct function transmits and outputs high-quality YUV 4:4:4 30-bit video signals directly to the TV. This reproduces colors that are highly faithful to the original.

Beautifully Reproduced Crisp Lines

Pure Image Creation

Diagonal lines and edges are detected with high precision in each scene for all types of images, and optimal correction is applied to achieve beautiful, highly natural, noise-free lines.

Expressive, Lifelike Colors

Vivid Color Creation

The brightness, saturation, contrast and sharpness of colors are finely compensated in each scene. Highly vivid colors are produced with hardly any mutual interference. People's faces are also detected, and skin tones are beautifully corrected to ensure soft, natural complexions.

Smooth Reproduction of Web Movies

Web Smoother

The blurring that often happens in web images is eliminated to produce naturally smooth motion.

Easily Convert 2D Images into 3D

2D-3D Conversion

Unique Panasonic technology converts 2D images into high-quality 3D images in real-time. The image depth is analyzed from the compositional, color and brightness data of each scene, to convert 2D images into naturally beautiful 3D images. In addition to ordinary TV programs, this method can be used to convert a variety of 2D images — such as web content, Blu-ray Disc™ media, and photos and movies saved onto SD Memory Cards — into 3D images with a high level of precision.

* When a 2D source is converted to 3D, the 3D effect is slightly less pronounced than with 3D sources.

Movie Content with Smooth Playback

3D 24p Cinema Smoother

Enjoy naturally flowing 24p films and familiar TV-like quality. In plasma displays, increasing the number of frames creates smoother images. When reproducing images from a 24p film source, VIERA's 24p cinema smoother function generates smooth, natural-looking images.

Turn Your Living Room into a 3D Theater

THX® 3D Certified Display

In order to enjoy the original image quality of a movie, you need to have a display that portrays the images exactly as the movie's creators intended. VIERA has cleared the high standards set by the THX Certified Display Program. It reproduces both 2D and 3D images with cinema-like quality. Enjoy beautiful images that are optimal for movies.

A New TV Sound Experience

3D Real Sound with 8-Train Speakers

Speaker System

8-Train Speakers

Eight dome-type microspeakers with reflectors deliver wide-ranging, high-quality sound. Only about 8 mm thick, these compact units also contribute to the beauty of the narrow-edge design.

Super Slim Sub-Woofer

The sub-woofer, which is mounted to the rear surface of the panel, delivers robust bass sounds. Its super slim design, with a thickness of only 22 mm, helps to keep the entire display attractively thin.

Sound Lifting Driver

Original Panasonic acoustic-field compensation technology produces highly accurate sound imaging. Matched to human auditory characteristics, the frequency for the bandwidth in which the sound is located is adjusted and the optimal compensation is applied.

Environment-Friendly Panel

Mercury and Lead Free

Panasonic is committed to making our products more friendly to the environment. In line with this commitment, all VIERA plasma display panels are free of both lead and mercury. This reduces the impact on the environment years down the road when the TV is recycled or retired from use.

Mercury and Lead Free

Years of Beautiful Images

Long Panel Life

One important way consumers can protect the environment is by choosing high-quality products and taking care of them so they last for a long time. A high-quality VIERA HDTV can help. Thanks to a newly designed phosphor process and rear panel process, our plasma panels last for up to 100,000 hours before the brightness decreases by half. That's more than 30 years of viewing 8 hours a day.

* This measurement is based on the time taken for the brightness of the panel to reduce to half of its maximum level. The time taken to reach this level may vary depending on the image content and the environment where the TV is used. Image retention and malfunctions are not taken into account.

Searching for Waste and Automatically Saving Power

Eco Mode

This mode automatically turns the power off and adjusts the brightness depending on VIERA's operating status. Settings can be configured by selecting Eco mode from VIERA Tools.

Adjusts Screen Brightness to Suit the Room

C.A.T.S. [Contrast Automatic Tracking System]

This detects the brightness of the room and automatically adjusts screen brightness accordingly. When the room darkens, it lowers the screen brightness and adjusts the image quality for easier viewing while suppressing power consumption.

Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 12 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by great purchase This product is easy to use and has one of the clearest pictures we've seen in many of the other televisions we have used in the past. It is better than our Vizio. We would definitely recommend this product. November 25, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Buy I was looking for a TV and i wanted a Plasma because of the 600Hz for gaming. I saw Panasonic and knew they where the people to go to for Plasma. So I made the purchase and never looked back November 25, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by The Best 50" Panasonic Plasma Ever Built This was a replacement of a 47" Panasonic TC-L47E50. If you own this 47" led then you might have a problem with lines going from top to bottom that are 2 or three inches apart. And they look like bars.I have owned the TC-P50GT50 tv since April 2013 and it works perfectly as day one. This has to be the best tv that Panasonic has made in 2012 or ever. I don't know what to list and tell you about first. The picture is better than amazing and so are the 8 train speakers w/subwoofer. And all of the other features are wicked awesome as well. If you can still find one, and I bet you can get a great deal on the price then go out and buy it. You can't go wrong with this one. August 10, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by BEST PLASMA ON THE MARKET! Purchased my Panasonic TC-P50GT50 and loved it right out of the box! Super great colors with deep blacks and a sleek design along with a faster computer processor for wireless entertainment. Paid a little extra to get the TC-P50GT50 for the THX viewing mode and love it! The sound from this television isn’t the best, but then that seems to be universal for all plasma/LCD/LED televisions. I went ahead and hooked up my plasma to a Panasonic sound system (SC-HTB350) and it’s perfect for my man cave. However, as much as I love my TC-P50GT50, BE WARNED… SOME OF THESE PANASONICS SUFFER FROM A BUZZING NOISE PROBLEM. I had read prior reviews regarding the problem before purchasing my TC-P50GT50, but figured it wasn’t a major problem. Well, within a few hours of turning on my TC-P50GT50, I detected a buzzing noise that was more noticeable than my other Panasonic plasma (TC-46PGT24). I also noticed the buzzing noise got louder the brighter the screen got. I immediately called Panasonic’s customer service and they promptly scheduled a repair technician to come out and inspect the television without any hassles whatsoever. Within three business days a technician was at my home and ultimately determined the main motherboard was malfunctioning. Five business days later, the technician was back at my house replacing the motherboard with a new one. Now, my TC-P50GT50 works beautifully without the annoying buzzing noise. Overall, great support from Panasonic’s customer service and warranty department. May 29, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by 50GT50 plasma Met all my expectations. Great blacks, colors, and sharpness. Very life like picture. Good on tv hd movies and blu-ray is superb. It is 3D and looks as good if not better that Imax 3 D. Glassed Ok but cost too much. Should only be about $40. I woud not trade it for any other TV. April 11, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Buy it......! This is my 2nd Panasonic Plasma TV. My 1st 3D. Very happy with my buy. Great picture, easy to setup. Will up scale veiwing to 3D. Did not come with 3D glasses, but bought 2 pairs that are 100% better than the free ones from other brands. Great value February 14, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by I am really amazed by this unit! I have nothing at all to say about this unit but awesome. Easy networking and straming of Netflix. Awesome picture quality in both 3D and normal. No distortion or pixilation with fast movements like I have seen in other units. Every day I like this unit more and more. This is one fun, very smart, very cool video unit! It is a disservice to call it a TV. December 29, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by TC-P50GT50 The first plasma I ever purchased. The picture quality is excellent with HDTV Programs and even better with blu ray. This replaced a 47 inch LCD. The plasma picture quality is by far better than the LCD. The smart features on the Panasonic are a plus. I also purchased the Panasonic 3D Blu Ray BD-320 to go with the tv. The remote takes some getting use to on the Blu Ray. Overall both of the Panasonic products perform great. December 9, 2012

  • The power light on the TV is on steady, but I do not have a picture, sound or both?
This could be caused by a few factors:

First check to ensure your TV is selected to the correct input (Source). If you are watching cable or satellite, following the cable from that device to the back of your TV.
If it is connected to antenna, HDMI 1/2/3, component or video you must also have the TV input select to match that connection. On the remote push the input button to check what source is selected on your TV.
Very important, you must ensure your cable box or satellite unit is turned on.
On some cable and satellite boxes, you may get audio with no picture if the box is turned off. If this does not resolve your issue, you may require service.
