SC-PT956 is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from first HTIB So i bought this item refurbished..came home..set it up..and bam i was listening to music/watching and using the 5.1 surround. Took me awhile to properly configure this with my ps3 via optical. You have to use only dolby 5.1 and not dts 5.1 or else some movies/games will not have audio (a lil research and i got it working properly) The wireless speakers are awesome..though the way it works is that the rear spearkers connects to a 'hub' which communicates wirelessly with the dvd/receiver. have no issues with it, works perfectly. As also this is my first surround sound home theater im extremely pleased and would definitely recommend this to first time buyers

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not what was expected wireless speakers not really wireless. The system uses cheap wires. you can't upgrade the speaker wires and if you need longer speaker wires, you have to splice extra wire in the middle. the system uses nonuniversal speaker connectors. the ipod dock is kind of flimsy. for the price it is ok. but was expecting more. for having one of the best plasmas made, this system does not live up to the Panasonic name.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best HTIB System As I write this users review of the Panasonic SC-PT956 Home Theater in a Box (HTIB) system please keep in mind these points I considered before making this purchase. First, I had a budget I needed to work within. Second, I wanted an easy to set-up system that would aesthetically work with the room decor and integrate easily with my LCD TV. This Panasonic SC-PT956 system exceeded my expectations of what I could have with a home theater system at the price I paid! Out of the box this system was up and running without any hassles. Everything needed was in the box except for the HDMI and Audio cables. Both of these cables I had on hand. The sound of this system is outstanding and a hands down winner for the price! I advise anyone who purchases this system to thoroughly read through its owner’s manual and realize there are some limitations with this system. If you want more flexibly in a home theater system then look into purchasing a separate type component system but expect to spend more money! Personally for my budget and home theater entertainment application this is a great system! I recommend this Panasonic SC-PT956 as a best buy! You cannot go wrong when purchasing this system! However, whatever personal decision you make if you purchase this system or any other I hope that you enjoy it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from decent cheap system I expected more based on the description. but guess i should have known better because of the price. The system uses cheap speaker wires. You can not upgrade the wires. the fit and finish do not meet my expectations of what a panasonic product is. the ipod connector is flimsy. sound is decent but does not match the Panasonic home theater system I purchase 2 years ago for about the same price. that system allowed me to upgrade the speaker wires and the fit and finish were superb. I would not recommend this to those people who expect a superior product. this is something you would find at Walmart. Not a video specialty store.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great, but missing a few things... The wife got me this for Christmas and immediately went about hooking it up and playing loud music and parts of some favorite movies. My only qualms are a lack of inputs. If you want 5.1 Dolby on more than one device (in my case HD Cable Box and Xbox 360), you're going to have to buy a switch. Either multiple optical inputs or optical, digital coax, and/or HDMI would all work just fine to get the devices I want hoooked up. I was also disappointed that it did not come with rear speaker stands as some of the prior models came with. I love having the Ipod dock, but it is a little tedious looking for songs on my 120gig Ipod Classic. The 8 gig Nano is easier since there is way less music on there. It's been a few weeks and I still get a stupid grin when watching movies or playing Xbox w/the surround sound on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from SC-PT956 Home Theater My wife and I love this unit it has and does it all. The sound is wonderful and we really like the wireless rear speakers, saved me running peskey wires around the room under wall molding. I am not a elect. wizzard so it took me a bit of time to get it hooked up but was well worth it.

Owner's Manuals
  • What do I do in the unit has no power?
If the unit is not powering on, remove the power cord plug from any power strip it may be connected to and plug directly into the wall outlet.
  • How do I connect a Panasonic home theater system to my TV?
Panasonic recommends that you use an HDMI cable to connect the HDMI output of your Blu-ray disc player to the HDMI input on your TV. Then place your TV on the correct HDMI input using your TV remote control.
  • What should I do if I am not getting any sound from the center or the right speaker?
    Center Speaker
Check the speaker wire connection on the back of the unit. Unplug the speaker wire from the back of the unit, and then reinsert it into the center speaker slot on the back of the unit. Next, go to the unit's audio settings and perform a speaker test. If you are using a stereo channel source or the unit has no center channel encoded, turn on the "Super Surround" option.

    Right Speaker
The right speaker of the center channel is a "Super Tweeter" it along with the full range speaker produce a more natural sound even though you may not hear audio coming from the super tweeter. Super tweeters produce high frequencies which may not be heard at all times.
  • How do I use the ARC feature with my home theater system?
ARC is an abbreviation for Audio Return Channel. To use this feature the HDMI cable you are using must be compliant to HDMI v1.3 spec or later. Older cables may not work correctly.

VIERA Link can work with either the HDMI- ARC feature of a compatible TV.
For ARC usage make sure that the systems HDMI ARC port is connected to the TVs ARC port.

    1. Press [HOME].
    2. Select "Others" icon and press [OK].
    3. Select "Setup" and press [OK].
    4. Select "Audio" and press [OK].
    5. Select "TV Audio Input" and press [OK]. Then select the "ARC" option.

Afterwards the TV's ARC feature will control the home theater system and the sound from the TV will be heard through the systems speakers.
