SC-HTB170 is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is perfect if you live ina condo or townhouse The quality of sound from this unit is excellent. The bass is not over powering like you get from a unit with a separate sub woofer cabinet. Just enough to really hear and not annoy the neighbors. I found some of the others I listened to suffered from the voices being somewhat muffled. The voices on a TV program and a movie are easy to understand and are not overpowered by the rest of the soundtrack with this unit. It's perfect fro those of us who live in a condo. The sound is a huge improvement over the TV speakers and the bass is there in good quantity but the neighbors won't be phoning to complain. Excellent sound bar at a great price. We will be listening to this one for a long time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great pairing with my older Panasonic plasma Bought this sound bar to give a little extra life to my older 42" Panasonic plasma TV. Was easy to setup and the extra sound is well worth it. It looks sleek and very nice finishes on the unit. TV is in the basement living room and didn't quite have enough clean volume to fill the large area. This little sound bar was all I was missing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product easy to use This is my second sound bar I have purchased from Panasonic. Love them both but this one with the Bluetooth connection is great. Kids play music all the time on it without me having to come hook it up or show them how to do it. Sound while I am watching my games is like I am there. Great product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent for it's price I picked up one of these fairly cheaply as i needed improved sound on my 37" LCD TV and from the inital specs/features of the product it looked good The unit is very well made and looks really good plus there is a great amount of options to place this i.e wall mounted, flat, standing....etc. On the front/top depending on how its placed there is some led light's to display basic information on what is selected and these are nice to have but when the unit is laid flat with them on the top you won't see them so knowing what is selcted may not always be easy but that's a small issue that i don't mind myself but some might. The remote is one of these small and thin affairs but feels nice and has all the buttons you may need. On the back there is a ok amount of connections, 1 HDMI in and 1 HDMI out, an TOSlink optical connection, USB and power jack but no analouge conenctor i.e. 3.5mm or red and white RCA which is a shame those would provide a universal option for people who need them. The included bluetooth functionality is very easy to setup and works very well with my smartphone. After a good amount of use i found the sound quality to be excellent and a big step up over my TV's speakers as well as a big step up over the speaker dock i had used with my TV as a temp option before i oicked this device up. Overall the device is well made, fully featured and sounds really nice so have no complaints and would easily recommend this product to others.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I bought two at that price. Both units were attached to Panasonic TVs. I supplied my own HDMI cables. Both sound great in large rooms. The blue tooth worked fine and was easy to pair with my iPhone. Shipping was fast. Very happy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Happy with product I am quite happy with the product. It was easy to install. The only issue was some difficulty in connecting the power cord into its slot in the back of the unit. I like the sound quality and the various options to fine tune the sound to fit the TV program we are watching. We have been using this product with a 32" flat panel HD TV, and this product has really improved the quality of the audio reception.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Maybe expecting too much mated to Panasonic TV I bought this Soundbar with the plan to mate it to my Panasonic VIERA 42" 720p Plasma HDTV (2008 model) TH-72PX80U w/VIERA LinK. Opting for the connection with an Optical cable I must have been expecting to avoid having to use the dedicated remote control for the Soundbar. That was not the case. I was hoping that using the VIERA Link settings on the TV would recognize the Panasonic Soundbar but that isn't the case. In reading the manual it appears that for the VIERA Link to work it has to go through the HDMI output of the TV. Unfortunately my Panasonic only has 3 HDMI ports, which are already used, that isn't possible with my current hardward. As far as the sound goes it provides a much improved experience over the standard TV speakers so I am pleased in that sense. The Bluetooth connectivity works as advertized so I can easily connect my mobile device and have it play in the background very nicely. I don't miss a subwoofer at all.

Owner's Manuals
  • What do I do in the unit has no power?
If the unit is not powering on, remove the power cord plug from any power strip it may be connected to and plug directly into the wall outlet.
  • How do I connect a Panasonic home theater system to my TV?
Panasonic recommends that you use an HDMI cable to connect the HDMI output of your Blu-ray disc player to the HDMI input on your TV. Then place your TV on the correct HDMI input using your TV remote control.
  • What should I do if I am not getting any sound from the center or the right speaker?
    Center Speaker
Check the speaker wire connection on the back of the unit. Unplug the speaker wire from the back of the unit, and then reinsert it into the center speaker slot on the back of the unit. Next, go to the unit's audio settings and perform a speaker test. If you are using a stereo channel source or the unit has no center channel encoded, turn on the "Super Surround" option.

    Right Speaker
The right speaker of the center channel is a "Super Tweeter" it along with the full range speaker produce a more natural sound even though you may not hear audio coming from the super tweeter. Super tweeters produce high frequencies which may not be heard at all times.
  • How do I use the ARC feature with my home theater system?
ARC is an abbreviation for Audio Return Channel. To use this feature the HDMI cable you are using must be compliant to HDMI v1.3 spec or later. Older cables may not work correctly.

VIERA Link can work with either the HDMI- ARC feature of a compatible TV.
For ARC usage make sure that the systems HDMI ARC port is connected to the TVs ARC port.

    1. Press [HOME].
    2. Select "Others" icon and press [OK].
    3. Select "Setup" and press [OK].
    4. Select "Audio" and press [OK].
    5. Select "TV Audio Input" and press [OK]. Then select the "ARC" option.

Afterwards the TV's ARC feature will control the home theater system and the sound from the TV will be heard through the systems speakers.
