Reviews

NN-SE982S is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 25.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Performance is excellent; support is limited. I bought this microwave based on its extreme capacity, wattage and performance reviews for our new house I was building. I installed it in a cabinet at eye level using the recommended trim kit. We've used it for several years (it has since been replaced in the Panasonic catalog with an identical-looking model with similar specs). The only problem with the unit is that the latch is beginning to hang occasionally, but it still opens. OH--- and the fact that despite its above average power, it produces lousy popcorn. I should add that it cooks everything else remarkably well, usually in about 10-15% less time. Two weeks ago the interior light burned out. There are no instructions in the user manual or on the Panasonic support site for replacing this simple part. After some difficulty, I finally got an East Asian tech support person to tell me that the part is not user serviceable. I found one local shop who would replace the bulb for $115.00, if I brought it in. I removed the microwave from the cabinet and attempted to take the cover off-- only to discover that it is held on with tamper-resistant screws. Fortunately, I have a wide variety of security bits. After waiting a few hours for any internal capacitors to lose their charge, I took off the cover and located the bulb. It's connected by a couple of push-on connectors and once those are removed, you can pop the modular light unit out of the shroud it's mounted in. If I had been given any information by Panasonic about the part number or designation of the light, I could have bought it ahead of time and completed the repair in less than five minutes. As it turned out, I had to remove the bulb and compare it to others on the Internet. It took a week for the part to arrive (I ordered two; the second will be on hand when this situation arises again. I can understand why Panasonic wants to keep their users out of their microwaves. There are some dangerous voltages generated to fire the magnetrons -- or inverters. If they didn't make a reasonable effort to protect their consumers, massive lawsuits could arise.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Look no farther! Best microwave EVER! Instead of turning power on and off for lower power settings, it actually reduces the power and doesn't turn on and off. This is great for more delicate items that tend to cook too much or explode. It also has a keep warm setting that lets you put food on hold without over cooking. It's large interior allows a 13" x 9" casserole dish to fit comfortably. I sold my first one when I remodeled my kitchen and got a Kitchenaid micr/convection combo built-in that matched the oven next to it. It was about $1800 and quit working after 16 months ( 1 year warranty). It was deemed unrepairable. I bought another Panasonic Inverter. I hadn't realized how much I missed it. Purchased the trim kit to make it built-in and it looks great!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great gift This was a gift from my sister when she found out out old microwave oven had given out. The unit is smaller than our old one but the interior capacity is greater. We like the look of the exterior. We are still getting used to the dial versus buttons but overall like this oven.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this Microwave We recently ordered the 1250W 2.2 Cu. Ft. Convertible Microwave NN-SE982S microwave directly from Panasonic and are very happy with it. It looks good and is very spacious. The dial is so much easier to use than punching in numbers. The Sensor Cook feature is really nice, it cooked a whole sweet potato to perfection. So far we are very satisfied.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Product, Features and Value We had an old Quasar Microwave Convection oven that was 22 years old and was finally ready to be replaced. We didn't use the Convection part so we looked for a replacement that was similar in size and features without the convection option. This and the model just below this were the two we narrowed our search to. We chose this one, as the selector dial did not protrude from the front panel. This has not disappointed us. The oven size, even with the turntable, allows for family sized cookware to be used. It took a bit to get used to the touch wheel, but once you get used to it it is easy and very intuitive. We love it and hope to get a good run of time with this microwave.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Panasonic/Inverter ever We're loving our new microwave. Have had an Inverter before so that's not new. (As always, we love the smooth cooking... oatmeal is right every time.) This new unit gives us more: - defrosting that actually works - easier no-moving-parts setup. The electronic touch-dial is very very nice. (Hint: spin at the edge for slow increase... spin near the middle for fast!) My only wish... when spinning through the genius sensor cooking choices... it would help if it listed the meaning of the current number.
