  • How do I record a greeting message?
    To record a greeting message or outgoing message, Press [MENU] [#] [3] [0] [2] and select [YES] on the handset, as soon as you hear a beep, start recording your message. To stop recording press [STOP] on the handset.
  • How do I put a call on hold when using my cordless handsets?
    To put a call on Hold when using a cordless handset, do the following.:
    1. Press [HOLD] 2 times during an outside call.
    2. To release hold, press the soft key [LINE 1] or [LINE 2] that is flashing on the display.
  • How do I properly charge my handsets?
    To ensure that the batteries charge properly, clean the charge contacts of the handset, base unit, and charger with a soft, dry cloth once a month. Clean more often if the unit is subject to the exposure of grease, dust, or high humidity. You may place the handset on its cradle after every use without damaging the batteries. Remember that the battery power is consumed whenever the handset is off the base unit or charger, even when the handset is not in use. Charge the battery(ies) provided only with the specified charger and for best performance, we recommend using the Panasonic rechargeable batteries.
    It is normal for the handset to feel warm during charging.

  • How do I install my brand new phone?
    After you open the box of your newly purchased phone, make sure you keep your receipt to validate the warranty of your phone. Check if all items and accessories that are supposed to be included in the box is complete, such as the batteries and the line cord etc. Follow these procedure to install and set-up he unit before use.
    1. READ the operating instructions Safety precautions before use.
    2. Use only the supplied Panasonic AC adaptor PNLV226, plug the tip at the main base unit and plug the adapter directly on a power outlet without any obstruction. Ensure that the AC outlet is installed near the product and is easily accessible.
    3. Use the supplied line cord and plug the cord at the back of the base securely, and the other end needs to be plugged in your telephone jack, make sure that the cord clicks when plugging the line cord on the base and the wall jack. You may now check if you can hear a dial tone when you lift the handset from the base.
    4. Remove the handset cover at the back of the cordless handset and insert the supplied rechargeable batteries inside. Confirm you install the batteries on its correct polarities, positive (+) and negative (-).
    5. USE ONLY Ni-MH batteries AAA (R03) size.
    6. Charge the new batteries by placing the cordless handset on the cradle. Initial charging needs to be 7 hours.

    After charging the handset, you may now start programming the handsets for your preferred settings.

  • How do I forward calls from my phone to another number?
    This is a service that you can have your phone company activate on your line. The phone is compatible with this service as long as you have call forwarding subscription.
  • How do I edit my caller list?
    Once you call back an edited number, the handset which was used to call back remembers the area code and format of the edited number. The next time someone calls from the same area code, caller information is customized by the handset. For example, you can use this feature to set the handset to ignore the area code of callers in your area, so that you can call these local numbers using caller information without dialing the area code. To activate this feature, you must edit an entry in the caller list, then call that number. After that, phone numbers from that caller's area code are edited automatically. View your caller list then press the soft key [EDIT] repeatedly till the display shows your preferred telephone number format then press [CALL]
  • How do I deregister a handset which is no longer in use?
    To deregister a handset, perform the following steps:
    1. Press [MENU]→[#] [1] [3] [1] on the handset
    2. Enter [3] [3] [5][OK]
    3. Select the handset you want to cancel by pressing the desired handset(s) number
    4. Select [OK][▲]/[▼]: "YES" →[SELECT]
  • How do I copy or enter my phone book items to my handsets?
    No. Once you add an entry to your phone book directory on one handset, it is stored in other handsets. This feature is known as shared phone book.
  • How do I clear 'New Voicemail' on my handset's display?
    Your telephone is alerting you that you have a new voice message from your phone company's assigned Voice mailbox. Procedure to access your voice mailbox would vary depending on the instructions of your phone company / service provider. Once you listen to your new messages, "New Voicemail" should be cleared from the handset/
    Note: If the handset still indicates there are new messages even after you have listened to all new messages, turn it off by pressing and holding [#] until the handset beeps.
  • How do I change the display language on my handset?
    You may change the display language and the voice guidance of the answering system.
    For the Display language:
    1. Make sure that the phone is not in use, press [MENU] on the handset
    2. Press [#] [1] [1] [0]
    3. Select your preferred language from the 2 options, highlight either English or Spanish by pressing the [▲] or the [▼] button
    4. Press down the center of the joystick to save your setting then press OFF

    To change the voice guidance for the answering system, follow these steps:
    1. On the handset press [MENU], then press [#] [1] [1] [2]
    2. Select your preferred language from the 2 options, highlight either English or Spanish by pressing the [▲] or the [▼] button
    3. Press [SAVE]
  • How do I change the dial mode from tone to pulse?
    To change the dial mode on the phone, do the following procedure:
    1. On the handset press [MENU]
    2. Press [#] [1] [2] [0]
    3. Select your desired setting
    4. Press [SAVE] to retain the setting
  • How do I chain dial from this phone?
    This feature allows you to dial phone numbers in the phonebook while you are on a call. This feature can be used, for example, to dial a calling card access number or bank account PIN that you have stored in the phonebook, without having to dial manually. Proceed in calling the number you need to contact then, start chain dialing by pressing [Ph.book] on the handset. Select your desired entry from the phonebook items then press [CALL], the phone should automatically dial the number.
  • How do I block calls on this telephone?
    You can only store up to 20 phone numbers on your call block list. View the number on the caller list by pressing the [View CID] soft key button on the handset then press the [▲] or the [▼]to scroll thru the numbers on the caller list, as soon as you have the phone number displayed on the screen, press [SELECT] then press [SAVE]. Press the [▲] or [▼]on the handset till "Block Calls" is displayed on the screen and press [SELECT]. Press the soft key [YES].
    You can also enter phone numbers on the list by pressing [MENU] [#] [2] [1] [7] on the handset. Press [ADD] Enter the phone number you want blocked, then press [SAVE].
  • How do I adjust the brightness of the screen on my handset?
    You can adjust the LCD contrast of the handset and base by following these procedure:
    1. Make sure that the handset is not in use. On the handset press [MENU]
    2. Press [#] [1] [4] [5]
    3. There are 6 levels of selection. Press any of the number keys from 1 - 6
    4. Press the soft key [SAVE] then press [OFF]
  • How do I adjust ringer volume?
    To adjust the ringer volume on the handset, press [MENU] [#] [1] [6] [0] and press [▲] or [▼] to raise or lower the ringer volume.
  • How do I adjust incoming ringer volume?
    To adjust the ringer volume of the handset or Base unit. Press [+] or [-] on the base or [▲] or [▼] on the cordless handset repeatedly to select the desired volume while the unit is ringing for an incoming call.
  • How can I use the mute feature?
    While mute is turned on, you can hear the other party, but the other party cannot hear you. [MUTE] is a soft key visible on the display on the handset only during a call. You can press the soft key anytime during a call. Press [MUTE] again to return to the conversation.
  • How can I switch to speaker phone on my handset?
    You can switch to speaker phone by pressing the speaker phone button on the handset and if you would want to get to the regular talk mode on the phone just press the [TALK] button on the cordless phone.
  • How can I re-register my handset?
    To register a handset, perform the following steps:
    1. Press [MENU] →[#] [1] [3] [0] on the Handset
    2. Press and hold down the locator button on the base for about 5 seconds until you hear the registration tone (If all registered handsets starts ringing, press LOCATOR again to stop, then repeat this step, procedure needs to be completed within 90 seconds
    3. Press [OK] on the handset.
  • How can I register the warranty of my phone?

    No. This model does not support Bluetooth connectivity.

  • Does it have an audible message alert wherein the phone beeps when I get messages on the machine?
    No, the Answering system does not have an audible alert, when you receive new messages on your machine it will only have the message indicator flash but it will not beep.
  • Could I use any regular not-rechargeable AAA batteries with this product?
    No. Use ONLY Ni-MH batteries AAA (R03), which is specified in the operating instruction book. WARNING: DO NOT USE ALKALINE OR HEAVY DUTY BATTERIES.
  • Can I wall mount this phone?
    No, the base unit is designed for use on desktop. However, the cordless handset charger can be wall mountable.
  • Can I still restore phonebook items that I have erased?
    No. The phonebook items are not retrievable. Once it's erased from the phone there is no way to retrieve them back.
  • Can I record a different greeting message for Line 1 and Line 2?
    Yes, greeting messages can be recorded in one of the following ways:
    - For line 1 and line 2 with different greetings (2 minutes max. for each greeting). Select "Line 1" or "Line 2" when prompted to selected desired line.
    - For line 1 and line 2 with the same greeting (2 minutes max.). Select "Line1&Line2". When prompted to select desired line.
  • Can I change the language display on my cordless phone from English to Spanish?
    Yes you may change the language from English (default) to Spanish. To do this, follow the steps provided:
    1. Press [MENU] on the handset
    2. Press [#] [1] [1] [0]
    3. Press your [&#9650;] or your [▼] to select your desired setting
    4. Press [SAVE] then OFF
  • Can I change the font size on the screen on my phone?
    No. The font size is fixed and there is no option to change it on the handset.
  • Can I change the channel of my phone?
    The product operates in the frequency range of 1.92 GHz to 1.93 GHz. The frequency is fixed and the channel cannot be changed, the telephone goes thru the bandwidth automatically.
  • Can I change the backlight timer on my phone? It keeps on turning off the back light.
    No. The handsets are preset for backlight, it is not programmable. When the handset goes idle, it will turn off the backlight to save battery charge.
  • Can I block calls using my phone?
    Yes. Caller ID service is required to identify phone numbers to match what you have stored on the call block list. The unit is capable of blocking up to 250 phone numbers, if you have more than 250 numbers to block then subscribing to a call block service from you phone company is an option.
  • Can I access my answering machine while I am away from home?
    Yes. You can access the answering machine remotely by dialing your phone number on any touch tone phone to call it and as soon as you hear your greeting message play, enter your mailbox password or remote code and follow the voice prompt, as soon as you are done listening to your messages you can hang up.
  • Boost shows up on my handset. How do I get rid of it?
    The clarity booster is a feature that can improve sound clarity when the handset is used in an area where there may be interference. During an outside call, this feature is turned on automatically when necessary. When this feature is turned on, [BOOST] is displayed.
  • Are there any setup tips about the location of the main base unit in relation to range and audio quality?
    Yes. To optimize the range / audio quality, please be aware that metal objects / devices within proximity of the main base unit (less than a few feet), may block base cordless signal to reach the cordless handsets, resulting in deteriorated audio/poor sound quality:
    - Personal computer
    - Fax machine
    - External hard drive
    - Cash register
    - Metal tray for stationary
    - Metal file cabinet
    - Other metal materials
    If you experience distorted audio on the cordless handsets at extended distance/certain spots, please check for the presence of these metal objects/devices, clear them (relocate the main base unit, if necessary) and you should hear better audio afterwards.
  • Are the keypads to my handset supposed to be back lit?
    Yes. The supplied handset for this model has a keypad back light.
  • My handset displays "Missed Calls". How do I view the phone numbers on my list?
    On the handset press the soft key [VIEW CID] then you can press the [&#9650;] or [▼] to scroll the list. Note that the soft key [VIEW CID] will not be displayed on the handset if there are no numbers stored on the list.
  • My handset displays "1 missed call" or "# missed calls". What does it mean, and how do I clear it?
    You received a call that was unanswered, but the caller didn't leave a message, or left a message in voice mail. If you have Caller ID, you can press [View CID] on the handset to see a list of received calls. To clear the handset indication, all you have to do is view all of the missed calls (calls without a check mark). To delete the received caller information, you can clear all messages by pressing [All erase] on the first Caller list screen, or delete individual calls by pressing [Erase] once the particular call is selected.
  • My caller ID information is displayed late.
    Disconnect the AC adaptor and telephone line cord from the base unit. Remove the batteries from the handset and leave to dry for at least 3 days. After the handset/base unit are completely dry, reconnect the AC adaptor and telephone line cord. Insert the batteries and charge fully before use. If the unit does not work properly, contact an authorized service center.

    CAUTION: To avoid permanent damage, do not use a microwave oven to speed up the drying process.
  • My caller ID information is displayed late.
    Depending on your service provider or telephone company, the unit may display or announce the caller's information at the second ring or later. Move closer to the base unit.
  • My answering machine says "memory full" and it no longer records messages. What can I do about this?
    The error message indicates that the answering machine's maximum recording time was reached. You need to erase messages from your answering machine for it to start recording new messages again.
  • Missed calls are appearing on my screen. Why?
    If a call is not answered on a specific handset, the unit treats it as a missed call. The display shows "Missed call". This lets you know if you should view the caller list to see who called while you were away. You can clear the message from the handset by viewing your caller list.
  • Messages are announced out loud, how do I turn off call screening?
    The call screening feature allows you to monitor a message from the base and the handset's speaker when the answering system is recording a message. The default setting is "On". To turn this feature off, follow these procedures:
    1. You can either use the base or the handset. Press [MENU] [#] [3] [1] [0]
    2. Use your [&#9650;] or your [▼] to select "Off"
    3. Press [SAVE]
  • It is not letting me return a call from the numbers I have on my caller ID and it keeps on giving an area code for local numbers. What do I need to do?
    Check the phone number if it is on the correct format, if it shows an area code and you would want that edited, Press the [VIEW CID] then press [&#9650;] or [▼] to scroll to select which phone number you want to edit the press [SELECT].
    Press [EDIT] repeatedly until it shows the correct number then press TALK. Once you call back an edited number, the handset which was used to call back remembers the area code and format of the edited number. The next time someone calls from the same area code, caller information is customized by the Handset the way you programmed it.
  • Is this phone hearing aid compatible?
    Yes. The phone system passes the FCC requirement no. 68 and it also complies to the "TIA-1083" standard. Phone has have reduced noise and interference when used with T-Coil equipped hearing aids and cochlear implants.
  • If I buy two bases attached to the same phone number, will I be able to call one base (or its handsets) with the other?
    No. Only intercom calling among handsets registered to the same base are possible.
  • I want to talk to 2 external numbers on my one line phone. What is "three way calling" and how do I perform this?
    A Three way call is a phone call in which the person who is calling wishes to talk to two other parties. It is a service offered by phone companies which allows you to call a party and by pressing the [Flash] button it allows you to receive another dial tone to call another phone number. Pressing [Flash] again will join all three parties together.
  • I took the batteries out of the handset just for a second and when I put them back in, the low battery icon flashes and the screen displays "charge for 7h". Is this normal?
    This is normal. When the batteries are taken out, the handset loses track of how much the batteries are charged. You may use the phone normally, but the battery indication will not be accurate until charged for about 7 hours.
  • I hear a series of beeps before my dial tone. Is this normal?
    If your dial tone is interrupted by several short gaps or beeps your phone company is indicating the arrival of a new voice mail message. It is the signal sent by your phone company to let you know that a message is waiting to be retrieved. If you are subscribed to a voice mail service from your provider this is normal. Please contact your phone company so you may know the procedure on hot to retrieve those message stores on your phone company's mailbox.
  • I have programmed the date and time on my phone but the information changes. Why does the date and time change automatically?
    If you are subscribed to Caller ID from your phone company, the unit's date and time setting will be automatically adjusted when caller information is received. If you do not wish for this feature to work, press [MENU] [#] [2] [2] [6] on the handset, then press [0] to select "Manual" and press [SAVE]
  • I have DSL service, will my phone be affected if I connect it on the same phone line?
    No. Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) is a service provided to connect over the internet transmitting over your local telephone line and is subsequently separated by filtering, so a DSL filter is recommended to eliminate noise on the background on your phone. Most DSL service providers would have the filters available for their subscribers, you may also check out your local electronic stores for availability. If you are not getting any service from your phone there is still a possibility of a phone line problem even if your DSL is working properly.
  • I can't hear a dial tone on my phone.
    Make sure that the base unit has power. Check if all cords are secure and plugged in properly from the wall and from the back of the base unit. Try to plug the unit to a known working jack then test again. If you have a different phone on the same line, and you are also not getting a dial tone, it is possibly a line problem. If that is the case, it is advised to contact your local phone company for further assistance.
  • I cannot operate the answering system.
    It is possible that:

    1. Someone is using the unit. Wait for the other user to finish and hang up.
    2. A caller is leaving a message. Wait for the caller to finish.
    3. The handset is too far from the base unit. Move closer to the main station.
  • I am trying to set up my phone and it says in the manual to press [OK], where is the button [OK] on my handset?
    The [OK] button is the middle soft key button. Soft keys are used in programming the phone system they are buttons that are not labeled on the Handset. They are located just below the screen on the handset and they function for whichever option is displayed on the screen.
  • I am experiencing Static and a humming noise in the background every-time I use my Panasonic phone. How do I fix it?
    If you are hearing static on your phone, reception breaks in and out or experiencing humming noise on the background while using your cordless phone, it might be caused by a transmission or electric interference, noise can also come from the phone lines, it would be best to locate the source of the interference first and a simple method of determining this would be to verify if static is heard on your other set of phones aside from the Panasonic. You can also try to relocate or plug the Panasonic phone to a different area where there is less interference. If you are subscribed to DSL service it is recommended to use a DSL filter, most DSL service providers would have the filters available for their subscribers, you may also check out your local electronic stores for availability.
  • How to add a Phonebook Entry?
    To add a phonebook item, follow these procedure:
    1. On the handset press [MENU] [#] [2] [8] [0]
    2. Press ADD] and enter the name by pressing the corresponding alphabet from the numbers on the handset keypad, press [OK]
    3. Dial the phone number of the contact then press [OK]
    4. Press the [&#9650;] or the [▼] button to select group then press [SELECT] twice.
  • How much radiation do these phones output?
    This product complies with FCC radiation exposure limits set forth for an uncontrolled environment. RF transmission power is 115 mW (max.)
  • How many messages can be stored on my answering machine?
    The total recording capacity (including your greeting message) is about 40 minutes. A maximum of 64 messages can be recorded.
  • How many handsets can be used with one main base unit?
    Up to a maximum of 6 cordless handsets can be used with one main base unit.
  • How many characters can I put on my phone book?
    Your phone can store up to 16 characters for the name and 24 digits for the number.
  • How does this phone system work during a power outage?
    The base unit will work as a standard telephone using power from PSTN telephone line. Line 1 on the corded handset can be used to make and answer calls. The base unit speakerphone and the cordless handset will not function during a power failure.
  • How does phonebook sharing work?
    Phone book sharing occurs automatically between handsets. It is not necessary to manually copy entries in the phone book from one handset to the other. Also, a phone book entry deleted on one handset is deleted from the other handsets as well.
  • How does phonebook copying work with my KX-TG939x series phone?
    You can copy phonebook entries from the base unit to a handset or vice versa but you can not copy the entries between handsets directly. To copy phonebook entries from one handset to another handset, copy the entries to the base phonebook first, then copy the entries from the base phonebook to another handset.
  • How do I use call waiting?
    To use call waiting, you must first subscribe to the call waiting service of your service provider/telephone company. If you already have the service activated on your phone line you will hear a few beeps during a call to place the first person on hold and answer the second party, press [FLASH] OR [CALL WAIT] button on the handset. The current call is then put on hold, and the other call is answered. You can press [FLASH] OR [CALL WAIT] button to go between the two calls as often as needed.
  • How do I unblock a number from my call block list?
    To unblock a number do the following procedure:
    1. On the handset press [MENU]
    2. Press [#] [2] [1] [7]
    3. Press the [&#9650;] or the [▼] to select your desired entry
    4. Press the softkey [ERASE], press [SELECT] on "Yes"
    5. Press [OFF] to exit the setting.
  • How do I turn on and off the auto talk feature on my handset?
    You can answer calls simply by lifting the handset off the base unit or charger. The auto talk feature will not work if the cordless handset is off the base or charger. You do not need to press [TALK]. To turn this feature on or off, follow these procedure:
    1. On the Handset press [MENU]
    2. Press the pound sign, [#] [2] [0] [0]
    3. Press [0] for off then press [SAVE] then OFF to exit operation.

    Feature needs to be set separately on each handset.
  • How do I turn off the key tone on this handset?
    The default setting is on, if you wish to turn off the key tone follow these procedure:
    1. On the handset press [MENU]
    2. Press [#] [1] [6] [5].
    3. Press [1] for ON or [0] for OFF
    4. .
    5. Press [SAVE] to save your preferred setting then press [OFF] to exit.
  • How do I transfer external calls when using the corded handset on base unit?
    1. During an external call, press [INTERCOM] to put the call on hold. (Do not press [HOLD] button, which is for SP-PHONE on base unit).
    2. When only one handset is registered to the base unit, the base unit pages the handset automatically.
      If multiple handsets are registered to the base unit:
      • To page a particular handset, enter the extension number.
      • To page all handset, press [0] or wait for about 4 seconds.
    3. Wait for the paged party to answer.
    4. Place the corded handset on the cradle or press [INTERCOM] again. The outside call is being routed to the handset.
      • If the paged party does not answer, press the flashing [LINE1] or [LINE2] to return to the outside call.
  • How do I transfer external calls when using a cordless handset?
    1. During an external call, press [INTERCOM] once to put the call on hold.
    2. To page the base unit press [0].
      • To page another handset, enter its extension number.
    3. Wait for the paged party to answer.
    4. Press [OFF]. The outside call is being routed to the destination unit.

    You can scroll thru the menu selection by pressing the [&#9650;] or the [▼] button, it is the biggest button in the handset located in between the [TALK] and [OFF] button.
  • How do I retrieve erased messages?
    You can no longer retrieve deleted messages from the machine. Once you erase a message it gets deleted from the phone's memory.
  • How do I reset my phone?
    To reset the phone system, unplug the main base from the electrical outlet and remove the batteries for 5 seconds. Install the batteries and replug the base. Do not reset your phone unless necessary.
  • How do I remotely turn on my unit's answering machine using a touch-tone telephone?
    You can turn on your unit's answering system remotely by performing the following steps.
    1. Dial your phone number using any touch tone phone.
    2. Let the phone ring 15 times. The greeting message is played back indicating the machine is already turned on. You can either use your remote code to continue to access your messages or hang up.
  • How do I register an optional accessory handset to my existing main base unit?
    To register an accessory handset to the base unit, perform the following steps:
    1. Press [MENU]&#8594;[#] [1] [3] [0] on the handset
    2. Press and hold [LOCATOR] button on the base until base beeps
    3. Press [OK] on the handset, then wait until a long beep sounds from the handset
  • Will I damage the batteries by keeping the phone on the charger?
    No. The batteries that comes with your telephone do not suffer from the same memory effect that older batteries used to have. It is safe to keep the handset on the charger whenever it is not in use. Use only the Nickel Metal Hydride rechargeable batteries. Never use Alkaline or any other types as these could damage your handset.
  • Why is the top light flashing on my Handset?
    If your phone system has an answering machine and you see the handset indicator flashing, it simply means that you have a new message recorded on your answering machine. It is also possible that your line is subscribed to a voice mail service from your phone company and your handset is alerting you that your voice mailbox just received a new message. As soon as you have listened to your new messages the handset indicator should automatically turn off the indicator light.
  • Why does my product display "Check tel line 1" and "Check tel line 2"?
    The telephone line cord is not connected or it is not connected properly. Check the connections. If you use the product as a single-line telephone only, you can erase the message as follows:
    To erase "Check tel line1", press [MENU] [#] [1] [8] [9]
    To erase "Check tel line2", press [MENU] [#] [1] [9] [0]
    However, when a power failure occurs, the message is displayed again. Erase again as above.
  • Why does my handset display "Please lift up and try again"?
    You attempted to dial from the cordless handset while located in the charger. Lift the handset out of the charger and try again. If the same error message appears on the handset after lifting the handset from the cradle, reset the handset by removing the battery from the phone then re-install them again.
  • Why do I hear an echo on my handset?
    This is normal. When you first use your phone, there may be a slight echo because the microphone is being calibrated. This will occur again if the base is disconnected from the power outlet, or after a power outage. If echo continues for several days try to reset the handset by removing the batteries from the cordless handset for a few seconds.
  • Why do I hear a series of dial tones followed by a continuous dial tone after I lift the corded handset or press [TALK] on the cordless handset?
    If your dial tone is interrupted by several short gaps or beeps your phone company is indicating the arrival of a new voice mail message. It is the signal (sometimes called "voice mail tones" or "stutter tones") sent by your phone company to let users know that a message is waiting to be retrieved. If you are subscribed to a voice mail service from your provider this is normal. Please contact your phone company so you may know the procedure on hot to retrieve those message stores on your phone company's mailbox.
  • Why do I hear a series of beeps before my dial tone?
    If your dial tone is interrupted by several short gaps or beeps your phone company is indicating the arrival of a new voice mail message.   • Why am I not hearing my greeting message when my answering machine picks up?
    The answering machine is not designed to play the greeting message out loud when machine answers a call.

    The handset features soft keys located right below the screen. By pressing a soft key, you can select the feature shown directly above it on the display. When you read the word [OK] on the handset, just press the corresponding soft key button below it.

  • Whenever I try to make a call my handset displays "Busy". How do I fix this?
    1. The called unit is in use.

    4. There is no handset registered to the base unit matching the handset number you entered.
  • When I answer an incoming call, I have to say "hello" several times before the other party can hear me. How can I fix it?
    Make sure that the handset is not on "MUTE". If the problem still occurs, unplug the base unit from the power outlet for 5 seconds and remove the batteries from the handset then put everything back and test the telephone.   • What should I do if my handset displays "No link to base. Reconnect AC adaptor."?
    Disconnect the AC adapter from the unit, wait for 5 seconds, then reconnect. The plug may have become loose over time or may not be fully inserted. If that does not work, try re-registering the handset.
  • What should I do if my base unit does not have power and there are no lights lit?
    If your base unit is not receiving power then you can try to have the base unit plugged on a different power outlet to test. If you have multiple handsets, you can try to use the AC adapter from one of the smaller chargers and have it plugged on the base. If you have followed the steps mentioned above and you base unit still does not have power, the base unit needs service. Please refer to your operating instructions warranty page for procedure.
  • What should I do if I can't return a call from the numbers I have on my caller ID and it keeps on giving an area code for local numbers?
    Check the phone number if it is on the correct format, if it shows an area code and you would want that edited, Press the [&#9668;] for CID select which phone number you want to edit by pressing [▲] or [▼] and press [EDIT] repeatedly until it shows the correct number then press TALK. Once you call back an edited number, the handset which was used to call back remembers the area code and format of the edited number. The next time someone calls from the same area code, caller information is customized by the Handset the way you programmed it.
  • What kind of batteries can I use for my handset?
    One cordless handset uses two (2) Ni-MH (nickel metal hydride) type rechargeable AAA batteries. To order replacement battery, please use order No. HHR-4DPA and contact 1-800-332-5368 or click here. The Panasonic rechargeable AAA batteries are recommended for best cordless handset performance. Replace batteries only with a nickel metal hydride (Ni-MH) type of battery.
  • What is voice mail and how do I listen to my voice mail messages?
    Some phone companies provide a flat-rate service which includes voice mail, it is a voice mailbox system assigned to your phone line that stores telephone messages which can be retrieved at a later time. Procedure to access your voice mailbox would vary depending on the instructions of your phone company. If you do not wish to use this added service, please contact your telephone service provider to deactivate your Voice Mail subscription.
    If you have a built-in answering machine with your telephone and you prefer to use it instead of your voice mail subscription, then it is recommended to change the ring count of the Voice Mail service so that the answering system can answer the call first. To do so, consult your telephone service provider.
  • What is the warranty of this telephone?
    This Limited Warranty only applies to products purchased and serviced in the United States or Puerto Rico. This Limited Warranty is extended only to the original purchaser and only covers products purchased as new. Coverage of warranty is applied to telephone products purchased within a year which starts with the date of original purchase. Please keep a copy of the valid receipt as a requirement for the warranty coverage.
  • What is the remote access code by default for accessing the answering machine remotely?
    The default code for accessing the answering machine remotely is "111". To program your own code, perform the following steps on handset or on base unit:
    1. Press [MENU][#] [3] [0] [6].
    2. Enter the desired 3-digit remote access code →[SAVE].

    Remote code can only be changed using the Panasonic phone it cannot be done remotely.

  • What is the night mode and how to set it up?
    Night mode is a feature that allows you to select a span of time during which the unit will not ring for outsides calls. It is useful for those occasions when you do not want to be disturbed, for example, while sleeping.
    Night mode can be set separately for base unit or individual handset.
    To set Night Mode, Perform the following steps.
    Make sure Date&Time is set beforehand. if you have the alarm set, it will sound even if the night mode is turned on.
    1. Press [MENU][#] [2] [3] [7]
    2. Enter the desired hour and minute you wish to start the feature
    3. Press [*] to Select "AM" or "PM" →[OK]
    4. Enter the desired hour and minute you wish to end this feature
    5. Press [*] to Select "AM" or "PM" →[OK]
    6. Press [OFF] if using the Handset

  • What is the Auto talk feature?
    Auto talk is a feature which lets you answer calls simply by lifting the handset off the base unit or charger. You do not need to press the [TALK]. The Auto talk feature will not work if the cordless handset is off the base or charger. Feature needs to be set separately on each handset.
  • What is my phone's voltage?
    Use only the supplied Panasonic AC adapter. The phone operates on 120V, 60 Hz.
  • What is FSK?
    Frequency Shift Keying or FSK is a signal used by service providers to alert you that you have a new voicemail message recorded on your assigned mailbox.
  • Voicemail: Line 1 is shown on the display.
    Line 1 has voicemail service provided by your service provider / phone company and there are voice messages in the mail box. "Voice mail: Line1" will disappear once all messages are erased/removed from your phone company's voice mail box.&#160;
  • The screen on my handset is stuck? How do I fix this?
    Reset the handset by removing batteries for at least 5 seconds, then put them back.
  • The screen is blank on my handset. How do I fix it?
    If you can still use the handset but the screen went blank or won't turn on, you reset the handset. To do this, just remove the handset cover at the back of the cordless handset, remove the battery for a few seconds and insert the battery and close the cover.
    If procedure doesn't work, adjust the LCD contrast by following this procedure:
    1. On the handset press [MENU] [#] [1] [4] [5]
    2. Select the adjustment by pressing number 1-6
    3. Press [SAVE]
  • The indicator light on the handset flashes slowly.
    The handset indicator light will flash for the following reasons:
    If the handset indicator light is flashing rapidly it means a call is being received.
    If a call is kept on hold for more than 9 minutes, an alarm tone starts to sound and the ringer indicator on the handset flashes rapidly as well.
    If the message indicator is flashing slowly, it means that there is a new message recorded on the built-in answering machine, once you listen to the message the indicator light should stop flashing.
    If 'New Voicemail' is displayed on the handset and the indicator flashes slowly, it means you have a new voicemail message, on your mailbox assigned to you by your phone company. If you are unaware of the voicemail subscription you may contact your phone company to get your voicemail PIN.
  • The date and time always changes even if I save the settings. What should I do to fix this?
    You have the "Time Adjustment" feature set to "Auto". This feature allows the unit to automatically adjust the date and time setting when caller information from your landline service is received. To use this feature, set the date and time first. To set this feature to "Manual" follow these procedure:
    1. On the handset press [MENU]
    2. Press [#] [2] [2] [6]
    3. Press [2] for manual
    4. Press [SAVE] then press [OFF] to exit the setting
  • The caller list or incoming phone numbers are not edited automatically.
    The Caller ID number auto edit feature is turned off. Turn it on and try again. You need to call back the edited number to activate Caller ID number auto edit. Follow these procedure to edit your caller list:
    1. While the handset is not in use, press [View CID] on the handset
    2. Press the [&#9650;] or [▼] to select the caller information you would want to edit then press the soft key [SELECT]
    3. Press the soft key [Edit] repeatedly until the phone number is shown in the desired format.
    4. Last procedure would be to press [TALK] on the handset to dial the number edited.

    Once you call back an edited number the telephone system remembers the area code and the format so you do not need to do this procedure every time you receive a call.
  • The ANSWER ON indicator on the base unit flashes rapidly.
    Answering system message memory is full. Delete old messages so that new messages can be recorded.
  • My telephone says 'Check Tel Line' and I cannot call out. What will I do to fix this?
    The supplied telephone line cord has not been connected yet or not connected properly. Check the connections by making sure the line cord is secure. When you plug the phone line cord at the back of the phone make sure you hear it click. You can also try to have the telephone plugged on a different phone jack inside the house, if there is none, try to take it to a neighbor or friends house to be tested, to be sure you are not having a line problem.
  • My handset says "line in use". How do I clear it?
    Make sure that the base unit has power. "Line in use" is displayed if the line is currently active on a call. If you have multiple handsets, it is possible that one of them is turned on so check the rest of the handset and turn it off.
    Check if all connections are secure and plugged properly from the wall and from the back of the base unit. If none of the handsets are in use, try to unplug the base unit from the power outlet for 5 seconds then replug and test the line by calling you line using your cell phone or a different phone line.
  • My handset keypad keeps blinking.? What's wrong?
    This is normal. Please recharge handset. When the battery voltage becomes low, the battery icon on the handset LCD will blink. If you don't recharge handset battery, the LED will shut off, and the Keypad light will blink to warn you to put the handset on the charger.
  • My handset is not charging. What can I do?
    First make sure you are using the Rechargeable batteries that came with the unit. The correct part numbers will be either HHR-55AAABU, HHR-65AAABU, N4DHYYY00002, or HHR-4DPA. Try charging the handset on the base charger. If that works, make sure the charging cradle is connected to the AC Adaptor, and the AC Adaptor is firmly plugged into the wall. Have you taken the batteries out of the handset recently. This will reset the battery indicator, so even though the batteries may be fully charged, the indicator will show low battery. Place the handset on the charging cradle for 7 hours to show full battery. Also, be sure the batteries are inserted properly. The '+' terminal should be showing at the top of the right battery and the bottom of the left battery.
  • My handset displays, "Please lift up and try again".

  • My handset displays 'Line in use' and I cannot receive incoming calls. What does this mean and how do I clear this error from my handset?
    Someone might be using the line. If you have multiple handsets, please check all of your cordless phones if they were properly hung up. If you have already done this, and the error 'Line in use' is still appearing on the phone, check if your other phone is getting a dial tone. If the problem seems to be happening with all of your phones, then you might be experiencing a possible line problem, you can try to plug the telephone on a totally different line like your neighbor's or friend's house.
    If the problem is only happening with the Panasonic phone follow these procedure:
    1. Unplug your Panasonic phone both from the phone jack.
    2. Try relocating the telephone on a different phone jack inside the house.
    3. Try using a different line cord if you have any other available.
    4. If steps above still doesn't work, telephone might need service, please refer to your instructions warranty page for procedure.
  • My handset displays "New Voice Mail". How do I clear it?
    You received a message on the voice mail system provided by your telephone company. To hear the message, dial the voice mail access number provided by your service provider, and follow the voice instructions for accessing the mailbox. Depending on your service provider you may need to clear your voice mailbox to remove the notification. If you have listened to all your voice mail messages and the handset still indicates "New Voice Mail" just clear the message on the handset by pressing and holding the [OFF] button for about 5 seconds to clear the displayed message on the handset.
