Reviews

KX-PRW130W is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from recommended- with warning re smartphone app Besides the top rating from The Wirecutter, one reason I chose this model was for the Smartphone Connect app. The ability to have a cellphone work as another handset to the landline is simply a good idea. I'm happy to say the SmartPhone Connect app was easy to set up, and works reliably- it's as good as your home WiFi is. The downside is that to use the cell phone to answer an inbound call on your landline, the Smartphone Connect app needs to be running. And when the app is running, it chews through your mobile's battery. I installed SmartPhone Connect on the same day as iOS9, and at first, I thought the OS upgrade led to horrible battery life. But after disabling SmartPhone connect, iOS9 is just fine for battery- it's the app. Other aspects of the phone work well- voicemail puts a time/date stamp on each message (thankfully!), voice quality is as good as a landline gets, and wireless range exceeds my modest property bounds- thats as much as I ask.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best combo phone and answering machine Was easy to set up and use. Has more features than I need. Compact so it does not take up a lot of room. Like the voice announcement of who is calling.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Sounded like a good idea Wanted the Smartphone Connect Feature, I thought.... while it will connect an incoming home call to the cell as a second handset, it won't go the other way, a cell phone call cannot be answered on the Panasonic handset. Call clarity is not as good as expected, actually worse than my 5 or 6 year old previous Panasonic set. The App that you download to your cell is rather clunky, if you use your phone in a locked condition, you have to unlock the phone and go through a bunch of button pushing to get the call answered, all this takes so long, you miss lots of calls. Setting up the Wifi system to the base was troublesome at best, tried the handset first, then the base, using the procedures detailed and finally resorted to using the WPA button on my wifi router. I went through the whole process maybe 10 times before it finally grabbed my network, and I can't tell you why it did after all the failed tries. Lastly, for the price of the unit, you should get at least one or two extension units. As it is now, I feel rather taken in terms of value. So, in summary, if the app was updated to have a smoother relationship with your cell phone, it would go a long ways to making this a worthwhile phone. As it is now, I'm not a satisfied customer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Phone with Great Technology I love the ability this phone system has. It allows you to expand the number of handsets you have, by either using your own iPhone or purchasing additional handsets.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good upgrade from the past I have had Panasonic phones for 15 years. They are typically durable and clunky as cordless phones go. This phone is very sleek and light and I hope as durable as the past models. So far so good.
