FAQs

  • Why is it that when someone leaves me a message it cuts off? How do I fix it?
    1. Press [MENU] [#] [1] [0] [*] Line 1 or [MENU] [#] [1] [0] [#] Line 2
    2. Press the [+] or [-] repeatedly until you see "3 MIN"
    3. Press [SET] to save
    4. Press [MENU] to exit
NOTE: 3 Minutes is the maximum length for incoming messages.
  • Why does the film run out so fast?
This unit comes with a starter film roll (10 meters) that prints about 30 letter-sized pages. You can purchase films through Parts/Accessory. This unit uses KX-FA92, which contains 2 film rolls (32m). Each roll will print about 113 letter-sized pages.
  • Why can't I receive any incoming messages.
Check if the unit shows "MESSAGE FULL". If so, you will have to erase messages so you can receive incoming messages. You can do this by pressing [ERASE] then [SET] to erase all recorded messages or by pressing [ERASE] while a message is being played back.

Make sure that the unit is set to TAM/FAX [Menu] [#] [7] [7]. Make sure that there is a light by the [AUTO ANSWER]. If not, just press [AUTO ANSWER] repeatedly until you see "TAM/FAX Mode" on the display.

Make sure that [MENU] [#] [1] [0] is not set to "GREETING ONLY" for this will not allow callers to leave messages after the greeting is played.
  • Why am I unable to send a fax?
The telephone line cord may be connected to the [EXT] jack on the unit. Connect to the [LINE] jack.
    1. If you used a splitter/coupler to connect the unit, remove the splitter/coupler and connect the unit to the wall jack directly. If the unit operates properly, check the splitter/coupler.
    2. Disconnect the unit from the telephone line and connect a known working telephone. If the working telephone operates properly, contact our service personnel to have the unit repaired. If the working telephone does not operate properly, contact your telephone company.
    3. The power cord or telephone line cord is not connected. Check the connections.
    4. If you have connected the fax machine through a computer modem, connect the fax machine directly to a telephone line jack.
  • Where can I order parts for my product?
You can order parts and accessories for your machine from our Parts & Accessories Department at 1-800-833-9626.
  • What should I do when the product displays "Check Film"?
    1. Open the front cover
    2. Open the back cover by pressing the green button on the right side of the machine
    3. If there is still film inside the unit, wind the film a little and make sure there is no slack
    4. Close the back cover. You will hear a rolling sound once it is shut properly
    5. Close the front cover
NOTE: If there's no film on the white spool and all the film are on the blue spool you will need to install a new film (KX-FA92). If you just installed a new film, make sure that you purchased authentic Panasonic Film. If not, this will not be detected by the unit and you will keep on getting the "CHECK FILM" message.
  • What should I do if I have no dial tone on my fax machine?
    1. Check the power cord and telehpone line cord connections.
    2. Try a different telephone line cord. Problem may be with the phone cord.
    3. Unplug the fax machine and install a different portable phone on the wall jack where the product is currently plugged. If the portable phone has a dial tone then it's a problem with the machine. Please call the technical Helpline for options. If the portable phone doesn't have dial tone but is working on the other jack then there could be a problem with the jack where the machine is currently plugged in to.
    4. The telephone line cord may be connected to the [EXT] jack on the product instead of the [LINE] jack.
    5. If you have connected the fax machine through a computer modem, connect the fax machine directly to a telephone line jack.
    6. Relocate the product.
  • The documents that I faxed out or copy has a black lines on it. How do I fix it?
The scanner glass may be dirty with debris such as "white out" or just plain dirt.
    1. Unplug the unit and locate the scanner glass
    2. Clean with dry cloth or if necessary, use a damped cloth with rubbing alcohol to help remove dirt
    3. Dry thoroughly before replugging the unit
  • My film keeps getting tangled up or keeps sticking why does it keep doing this?
This usually happens if you are using after market brands or films made by another manufacturer. The wax contents for the Panasonic film and after market brands are different thus the film sticks to the machine and paper. If you are using genuine Panasonic films then the machine needs to be serviced.
