* This camera's waterproof rating complies with IPX8 ratings. This does not guarantee no destruction, no malfunction, or waterproofing in all conditions.

3-Meter Waterproof

Capture high-quality videos and photos anywhere -- even underwater or in snowy mountains.

Beautiful images and sounds even underwater.
Underwater Mode

Underwater colors are automatically compensated to give them a naturally clear appearance. Also, the sounds of grasping the camera and operating the buttons are suppressed by the noise reduction function for a clear sound that matches the clear images.

Stable, single-handed shooting.
Ergonomics Design

This unique grip form minimizes shooting fatigue. Shooting is stable because you can easily hold the HX-WA2 with one hand. Single-handed shooting also makes it easy to capture sudden shooting opportunities.

Easy-to-see, free-angle LCD.
285°Rotating, 6.7cm / 2.6-inch Wide-screen LCD

The HX-WA2 features a 6.7 cm/2.6-inch wide-screen LCD monitor that allows the brightness to be adjusted in seven levels. It also rotates through approximately 285° so you can easily position it at your preferred angle. This lets you keep your subject clearly in view, whether you're shooting high, low, or at yourself and your pets.

Comfortable operation.
Twin Shutter / Joy Stick

The twin shutter lets you shoot both videos and still images without having to switch modes, and there is a joy stick on the rear panel. The control buttons are larger than on previous models, for more comfortable operation. For example, you can operate the HX-WA2 while wearing gloves.

Image Quality

High-quality photos and videos.
High-Quality Image Engine

This High-Quality Image Engine enables both excellent image quality and a compact body. Its image-processing algorithms and architecture were designed for high-speed processing, signal processing systems were optimized for noise reduction, and power consumption was reduced. In addition to providing motion judgment for the noise elimination process, the 3D Digital Noise Reduction function also lowers random noise. By allotting the bit rate for the noise consuming component to the video signal, compression efficiency is improved for crisp, clear videos.

Sharpens details and enhances smooth areas.
Intelligent Resolution Technology

The High-Quality Image Engine has evolved with original Intelligent Resolution Technology. This new technology confirms the edges of objects within the image, then emphasizes the edges for optimal clarity. Conversely, it reduces noise and enhances the natural smoothness of parts without edges, like the sky. The increased sharpness is especially effective for images with delicate details. This highly advanced technology maximizes the beauty of Full-HD images.

Intelligent Scene Selector

The Intelligent Scene Selector function analyzes the shooting situation and automatically switches the camcorder to the suitable scene mode that will give you optimal results.

This mode captures faces beautifully. With Soft Skin mode, complexions are automatically enhanced to make faces attractive.

This mode is ideal for shooting wide landscapes and sweeping vistas, such as at the ocean or in the mountains. It balances the exposure over the entire frame to prevent brighter parts of the image, such as the sky, from being washed out or having blown highlights.

The camcorder automatically uses this mode for scenes with particularly strong contrast, such as when you're shooting a spot lit area on a darkened stage. It captures the well-lit subject perfectly and prevents washed-out areas.

Low Light

In dim lighting, the camcorder automatically switches to a slower shutter speed so that images across the entire frame are bright and easy to see.

The faces are darkened by backlighting, and slightly out of focus.

The faces are bright and perfectly in focus.

Face Detection

Face Detection automatically senses the ambient lighting and adjusts the exposure accordingly, so faces are bright and easy to see. The focus also prioritizes the faces, and skin tones are smoothed.

Record lifelike audio.
Stereo Microphone

The HX-WA2 uses a waterproof microphone speaker that lets sound pass through while keeping water out. It lets you record videos with lifelike stereo sound virtually anywhere, even underwater.

Photo Functions

Preserve photos with excellent details.
14-Megapixel Still Picture Recording

The HX-WA2 captures even tiny details in 14-megapixel high-resolution still pictures. Depending on the situation, you can flexibly shoot either high-quality 14-megapixel photos or Full-HD videos. You can also capture 2-megapixel still images while recording a video by simply pressing the Still button.*

* Varies depending on the video mode used for shooting.

Enables dynamic 360°/180° panorama shooting.
Panorama Mode

Panorama Mode

Panorama makes it is possible to shoot a horizontal / vertical panoramic image with consequent shots taken by overlaying the previous picture.

Enjoy truly versatile expression.
HDR (Backlight Compensation) / HDR (Paint)

Easily take photos with the optimal exposure. Three images taken at different exposures are combined to record one optimal still image while suppressing blown highlights and blocked shadows.

HDR Backlight Compen

HDR Paint further expands your photo creativity. This correction process gives still images an artistic, painting-like effect.

HDR Paint

Captures those spur-of-the-moment scenes.
Burst Shooting

This function lets the camcorder snap up to 10 consecutive 3-megapixel still images, which are fired off at 1-second intervals for a total of 40 continuous images in about 4 seconds. You can use it to get good shots of subjects in fast motion. Just fire off a number of shots without stopping, then keep the best ones and delete the rest.

Never miss another shutter opportunity.
High-Speed Reverse Consecutive Shooting

The High-Speed Reverse Consecutive Shooting function continues to capture images while the Still button is pressed, and then, by releasing the button when the desired scene ends, the data that was input just prior to the button release is recorded onto the Built-in Memory as consecutive images. This lets you preserve important memories without missing out on those split-second shutter opportunities.

* The number of consecutive shooting images that can be taken varies depending on the image recording size. Also, there is a limit to the number of consecutive images that can be taken.

Makes optimal settings automatically.
iA (Intelligent Auto) for Still Picture Recording

Trust iA!

The iA function is active even when shooting still images. When the Intelligent Scene Selector detects the shooting situation, it optimizes the settings for the still image.

Adjust the exposure and coloration so that skin tones look true and natural.

Switches to Macro mode when the camcorder comes close to the subject.

The new 5-axis correction ensures beautiful images with minimal blurring even in highly active situations. Its effects extend to a variety of shooting styles, such as zooming and shooting while walking.

Sharp focusing even up close.
Macro Shooting

Get as close as 1 cm when shooting small objects such as flowers or accessories. Enjoy creative shooting with high-resolution photos.

No more worries about whether your subject is centered.
Nine-point Auto Focus

The HX-WA2 automatically focuses on your subject with its nine-point auto focus, even if it isn't located in the center of the frame. This prevents your shots from going out of focus.

Shoot in your very own style.
Manual Shooting

Select the exposure compensation, aperture priority, and manual mode to shoot.
This allows manual shooting to match the situation.

HX-WA2 is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Camera I recently bought this camera and i must say I am pretty impressed with it. The pictures it takes are amazing, as is the video. This camera by far beats any other pocket cam i have had in the past and i have had a few of them. This camera has more of a professional feel to it and offers a lot more than the other "pocket cams" or "flip cams" This camera can easily become your main camera to take with you on family vacations and things, where other cameras in this category i find cant be as dependable and certainly doesn't take as nice of pictures as this one does. Its great to take high quality videos and pictures with the same camera. So far the only thing I would like to see change is the quality of the buttons, they seem to be a bit flimsy. Other than that im really happy with it...Oh and it would have been nice to have a lens cover too...
