HDC-SDX1H is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Many digicams take better video Many digital cameras take better looking video. The colors were totally washed out. The colors never popped, the contrast was weak, and it was seriously lacking in sharpness. Not to mention the constant haze, and terrible low light performance. When indoors with all the lights, a total off 13 lights in like 400sqft, on it was terrible. I purchased a 3Mos camcorder, and the difference was AMAZING. There is no comparison at all. The simple fact is that with a single 1/4 inch sensor, most digital cameras have sensors that are nearly double the size. So, why pay huge money, when a 100 dollar digicam can produce better colors and contrast? Rather than this, get a nice digital camera and you get most of the video features, much better image, and all the still pictures aspects in an even more transportable size (which is the SDX1s only real redeeming quality anyway.) The SDX1 lacks a good sensor, a good lens, a good processor, and is a total ripoff for anything over 150 bucks. Search youtube for 3mos vs 1mos, and you will understand.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good, if you know how to adjuest it This is my second camcorder to replace old mini-DV. For the frequently World traveler, the size is important and I don't have to bring AC adapter to recharge battery on the road. I just plug-in to my netbook USB port to charge it. The video quality is not acceptable if you compare to high-end 3 MOS model. But with the manual setting mode, you can get the terrific amazing sharpness and details for each video scene. The secret it to set sharpness to +5, and color saturation to +3. In this situation you can get very good video even in 640x480 VGA mode. The other advantage is the different format SDX1 supported, I didn't use 1920x1080 HD mode on the road. Most of time I just shot at VGA format for 4:3 video, or iFrame for 16:9; I just wonder about how come the 1280x720p just get the slightly degradation in video sharpness compare to 960x540 iFrame. (May be iFame encoded at 28Mbps and 720p MP4 encoded in 10Mbps). The beautiful side is these 3 formats are easy to open, edit, color enhancement, sharpness adjustment, and convert it to DivX (Xvid) by Avidemux freeware around 800kbps to 1200kbps video rate by my Acer netbook runs at 1.3GHz CPU with only 1GB memory. If you go travel, you can upload the edited DivX video to your blog or web-site even with less resolution at lower video bit rate. (Resize is build-in in Avidemux) I have another Panasonic Fz-28 camera, compare to it's video capability; SDX1 can get better and faster focus and low light video quality. Of course FZ-28 makes better and solid picture quality; it's digital Camera. I am not recommand this camcorder for average traveler, who won't make and video editing on the road. But as a backpacker and travler documentary, SDX1 is my favorite.
