DMR-EA38VK is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from great picture and sound, remote could be better For the most part i really like this unit, it is a panasonc, the picture and sound quality are really amazing for both dvds and tv broadcast. Some minor cons are: For watching a DVD the remote buttons are may be quite confusing for anyone who hasn't read the manual, because the "Sub Menu" button takes you to the control panel for the unit's internal settings. The "Direct Navigator" button is the one to press to get to the main menu of a DVD. No other dvd deck, including my other more basic Panasonic dvd player has a "Direct Navigator" button for that purpose. It sometimes takes a second for the tuner to find the next channel when watching tv, though i think that may be because it is a digital and analog tuner. On a more minor note, It is disappointing that you don't have the option of recording a digital broadcast channel to a vhs tape. (yes i know dvd's are better) The deck is clearly capable of converting digital to analog, otherwise it wouldn't have the capability of transferring digital dvd's to analog vhs tape.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for the money Just bought this a few weeks ago and I would recommend this to anyone looking for a new VCR or just a DVD recorder. For the price, the value is outstanding and far exceeds expectations. When it is running, it is extremely quiet and you barely notice a DVD or tape playing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from DVDs are incredible Pros: 1. DVD quailty using an HDMI cable to upconvert to 1080p on our 50in Plasma looks perfect. 2. Near silent operation 3. copied DVD from VHS also upconverts. 4. Very affordable Cons: 1. Manual is vague. 2. know way to tell that its actually upconverting to 1080p. 3. no sleep timer. 4. if you set the TVs sleep timer and are watching a VHS when the tape rewinds it starts over and turns the tv back on. 5. Firmware updates are not there. 6. sometimes the remote and or panel become non responsive, you have to power off the unit by unplugging to reset.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of my best purchases This product is amazing. I am addicted to Panasonic quality anyway, having used a Panasonic VCR for several years with no repairs necessary - but I have really enjoyed using this new VCR to DVD recorder. I had some old VCR tapes of family events that I have converted to DVD's. I have shared them with family members and received comments - like - "this is the best gift I have ever received" and these DVD's are "priceless". I heartily recommend this product.

  • Why can't a rented disc play in my player?
If you're having difficulty playing a disc that you have rented or borrowed, try a disc that you own to see if it plays. If it does play then there could be a problem with the borrowed or rented disc. Try cleaning the disc with a soft cloth to remove any fingerprints or smudges.
  • Is there a remote control code available that will enable me to use another manufacturer's remote to operate this device?
You will have to contact the remote's manufacturer for the codes needed.
  • What do I do in the unit has no power?
If the unit is not powering on, remove the power cord plug from any power strip it may be connected to and plug directly into the wall outlet.
  • Can I playback a DVD from another region other than Region "1", "0", or "play in all regions"?
No, this device is unable to playback a DVD from other regions.
