DMP-BD89 is rated 1.9 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from firmware download is pc only The firmware here is a zip file. Unzipping the file gives a .exe file. In hopes you knew what you were doing, I followed the instructions exactly and burned the exe file to a cd. When that failed to update the player, I borrowed a pc and ran the exe file there, producing the needed .FRM file. Just zip the FRM file, Panasonic, and the instructions will work cross-platform.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It's been a good product We received our blu ray player for a gift several years ago and it has always worked well. We had some trouble one time with it not playing blu ray discs and I found out it needed to be updated. I simply followed the instructions and it has continued to work well ever since. I like all the features

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Watched 6 movies and then quit working. Worst money ever spent. 6 movies and it was didn't work again. Movie theatre movies are cheaper than what that cost me. I will never buy anything Panasonic again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst product ever Do not buy this product. I purchased based on my past experience with Panasonic products in the past. It has poor app selection, no amazon vod although it is advertised, and it continually locks up. I do not think I will buy a Panasonic product ever again. This player is horriable! It actually tells you in the instruction manual that it locks up and the way to fix it is to unplug it for a minute. Unacceptable! I want my money back, but I am sure that won't happen. Do not buy this product and double check reviews like these to make decisions on their other products.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Junk Tried 2 different "smart" TV's and 3 different, working HDMI cables and could not get it to work.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Constant Freezes When looking for a blu-ray player, I took a chance and chose a Panasonic just based on the brand name. I bought this blu-ray player 6 months ago, and now it completely locks up on me. This now happens every time I turn it on. It is responsive for less than 30 seconds, and then just freezes. It won't respond to the remote or the manual buttons on the player itself. I have to physically unplug the player from the wall to get it to turn off. This happens with streaming and simple dvd playing. I am severely disappointed with this player, and if I have to get another it will NOT be a Panasonic.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Frequent Lock Ups! I purchased this Blu Ray player about 3 months ago as I was tired of using my (old, loud) PS3 to play Blu Rays, and the features on this seemed nice. Then about 3 weeks after I purchased it, a mandatory firmware update (1.41) was released. I upgraded, thinking nothing of it. Ever since then, the player has FREQUENTLY locked up during Netflix Streaming or during general operation. There has not been a firmware update since that release on 6/6, and this device continues to perform horribly. When it locks up, I have to unplug the power cord for a few seconds and plug it back in. Yes, I have to REBOOT my DVD player frequently. Overall, I am very disappointed with this product, and based on things I've read online, other people are experiencing similar problems. There also is no option to stop the unit from playing a disc in the tray on bootup. So every time I start it without having previously taken the disc out (or if my kids left it in, which they always do...) I get some random movie booting up, when what I wanted was to go into Netflix or USB. This thing is a hot mess, and I recommend NOT buying it, no matter how cheaply you get it. At the very least wait until they update the firmware again, but I'm doubtful that after 2 months of no updates we'll ever see another one, and I'm doubly doubtful that any updates would actually fix this pile of junk.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not functional The remote for this device will only control Panasonic TVs. We bought this unit for my grandmother because it was supposed to be an easy to use remote, but it is not. The home menus are also slow to respond and load, as well as some of the controls to load to various menus. I find myself hitting the buttons over and over to to see if it got the signal. It turns out that it is, but its so slow you can't tell.

FAQs
  • What do I do in the unit has no power?
If the unit is not powering on, remove the power cord plug from any power strip it may be connected to and plug directly into the wall outlet.
  • What should I do if my Blu-ray player freezes or locks-up?
If your Blu-ray player is not responding then do as follows:

    1. Unplug all cables and USB devices from the player.
    2. Unplug the power, wait about 30 seconds then reconnect.

We recommend connecting the player (wired) to your network and attempt updating its Firmware again.
  • Why is a "No Read" error message appearing on my players display?

Ensure that the surface of the disc is not dirty, scratched or smudged, or try another disc and see what happens. If the product is unable to play all discs, then it will require servicing.

If you elect to have your Blu-ray Player, DVD Recorder or Home Theater System serviced, please contact Panasonic via email before sending your unit in at panacare@us.panasonic.com.
