Rated 2 out of 5 by from Lint under the lens, again! When this camera was new (2012), I was out of the country using it. It got lint or some sort of squiggles under the lens, which appeared in all photos unless I maneuvered the squiggles into a dark area. Not easy to do, and very annoying! When I returned, since the camera was warrantied, they repaired it free (December 2012). On my latest trip out of the country, it happened again! I spoke to Customer Service, and if I send the camera to them and pay $180.25 plus tax, I'll get a refurbished one (probably the same one) which is guaranteed for 90 days. They directed me to Square Trade for an additional warranty, but it only warranties new cameras, not refurbished ones. I'm afraid they've lost me as a customer. There are other camera companies. I've ruined two sets of photographs from my travels because of this problem, and I see other writers on this forum who have the same problem! Wake up, Panasonic. Tighten the lens or something!!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Save Your Money You would think with a name like ZEISS that would be an indicator of quality. NOT! There are engineering issues with this camera that have been discussed at length on other forums. One being the inherant problem with dirt or some other anomalous debris getting on the platen and inside the lense. It is a recurring issue that affects photo quality regardless if sent in for repair. Maybe they forgot to design an "o" ring or something? Never had this issue with the big three or any other camera. My 1956 Leica runs circles around this thing and it uses FILM. It's a shame, that even my camera phone blows this thing out of the water.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Slow on continue shots This is camera is almost perfect one for me, except it is two slow for continuing shots. It seems to take long to get focused on the next shot and even slower if the auto flash light is being powered up.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Disappointing "Upgrade" I previously had the ZS3 series camera which I LOVED. When I needed to replace it, I naturally went to the ZS8 after reading several reviews about poor image quality on the ZS10. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that the ZS8 was, contrary to its specifications, not even as good as my ZS3. I hope that a firmware update comes out which allows me to reduce the compression on the images and turn off the anti-hand shake feature (like my ZS3 could do). Another option would be a RAW format. Overall, it's still a good camera, but I am disappointed that the newer camera keeps making me long for my old ZS3...

  • How do I install firmware in my camera using an SD card?
    Digital Still Camera Firmware Update Guide.

    1) Preparation before attempting the update.

    A. Make sure the camera's battery is completely charged. If the battery is not completely charged the firmware update will not begin. Format the SD memory card in the camera, then take a couple of pictures.
    B. Turn off the camera.

    2) Copying the Firmware to your memory card.
    A. Download the latest firmware update for your model by clicking on the "Download Ver. X.X " link to a location on your computer (we recommend the "Desktop").
    B. If your computer has a media reader, please insert your formatted SD Card from your camera.
    C. Open the zipped firmware file that you downloaded to the desktop.

    D. For"PC" users, locate your SD Card by clicking on, or opening the"My Computer" or"Computer" on your desktop or your"Start" menu. For"Mac" users, can use"Finder" if the drive does not mount to your desktop.

    E."Drag" to Copy and Paste" the .bin file from the opened folder to the drive with the SD Card showing in your"My Computer" window for"PC" users and"Finder" or"Drive" in Macs. This will copy the file to the card.

    F. If you choose to leave the SD Card in your camera, connect the camera to the PC with the USB cable. Turn the camera on and set it to"Playback" mode. Then select"PC" on the LCD screen. Drag the .bin file from the opened folder to the device that either says Panasonic or mass storage to complete the transfer.

    G."SDXC cards, 32GB or larger, require special card readers. Depending on your PC, and the age of its operating system, you may not be able to directly write to such large cards. If your PC asks you to format the card, DO NOT, this is one indication that your system is not compatible with the newer larger memory cards. In this case a smaller card, 16GB or smaller should be used.

    3) Updating the camera's firmware.

    A. Turn the Camera off, insert the SD Card if you copied the firmware to the card while inserted into the computer.

    B. Turn the Camera power on and press the"Playback" button. The camera's LCD screen should now be showing a screen asking if you desire to"Update" the firmware. Highlight"Yes" and press the"Menu/Set" button.

    C. When the Camera has completed the firmware update it will turn itself off and then back on.

    D. This completes the update process.

    4) Confirming the update.

    A. Turn the camera's power back on.

    B. Set to"Playback" Mode.

    C. Choose the"Setup" menu.

    D. Select Version Disp.

  • Why am I having problems transferring photos via Wi-Fi directly to my computer?
    In the majority of cases the difficulty lies with the sharing attributes of the folder to which you are attempting to send photos to, and/or a mismatch in the computer's network name. First, check to see if you installed the PhotofunStudio software that came with your camera. During the installation, you will be asked if you want to create a "Lumix Share"folder. Answer "YES". This will automatically set the sharing attributes of this folder to allow sharing with an external device, the camera in this case. If you have not installed it, please install it now. Next, when Windows is installed it automatically creates a "workgroup"and gives it a default name of WORKGROUP. If the you changed this name, the camera must be changed to match the new name. This is done from the camera's Wi-Fi setup menu. Finally, after both of the above have been checked, please reset all the Wi-Fi settings back to their default values. Once this has been done, create a new connection.

  • Why am I unable to view the photos on my camera after I have deleted some files from the SD card using the computer?
    It is not recommended that you delete or modify any photos on your SD memory card using your PC if you plan to move them back to the camera. Doing so can damage the file allocation table and your camera will not be able to read the files. You should immediately copy the remaining photos from your SD card to your PC. After doing so, using your camera, reformat the SD card.

    We recommend you try removing the battery from the unit for approximately 60 seconds and reinstall the battery. If your lens still will not open or close, we suggest you consider having your camera serviced.

    If you have a second battery, try it to see if you can power on the camera. If you dont have an extra battery and you're sure the battery you have is fully charged then the camera may need to be serviced.
