16 In-Camera Creative Effects

16 Creative Controls To Reinvent Your Photography

Panasonic is ready to take the ordinary and make it extraordinary by fueling your creativity with the Creative Control feature (in the recording mode) and the Creative Retouch feature (in the playback mode). These features take simple or complicated scenes and make them easy to capture in a great photo. Simply set the camera on the LCD screen to match your scene and it uses sophisticated presets to optimize the camera settings resulting in photos you'll be proud of.

Creative Control

Radial Defocus

The Radial Defocus adds a defocus effect from the light source.

The Smooth Defocus makes the defocus figuration even smoother.

Have you ever wanted to capture a flower blooming, or clouds floating across the sky? The Time Lapse Shot feature on the DMC-LX7 gives you the creative control to set the start time, interval for taking the images, and the number of pictures to shoot. Once that is set, the camera will automatically record the images without you.

Multi Exposure

The Multi Exposure function gives you the ability to take up to three exposures in a single frame. You can layer subjects that wouldn't ordinarily appear in the same frame for an artistic effect, or make one subject appear two or three times in the same frame.

Photo Style

You can choose from 6 color types, ranging from monochrome to vivid, resulting in photos and videos just the way you imagined them. In addition, the contrast, sharpness, saturation, and noise reduction for each mode parameter can be customized in 5 steps and even stored in memory.

Intelligent Night Shot

Bright, glamorous night scenery can be recorded without using a tripod when you use the Intelligent Handheld Night Shot in the iA Mode. It generates a beautiful night scene with illumination by layering multiple pictures shot consecutively for one outstanding night photo. The Handheld Night Shot Mode is also available in the Scene Modes.

Panorama Shot

The Panorama Shot Mode makes it is possible to shoot a 360-degree horizontal/vertical panoramic image with consecutive shots taken by overlaying the previous picture.

3D Photo Mode

The 3D Photo Mode produces a 3D image in the camera. The image-processing method used by LUMIX records beautiful images with less distortion or visible image links.

Internal ND Filter

The Internal ND (Neutral Density) Filter reduces the light in a scene allowing you to slow the shutter speed by 3 steps. Capture the flow of a waterfall with a slower shutter speed or open the aperture for a softer background even on a brightly lit day.

In Resolution Priority of the Program AE Mode, the Internal ND Filter is used to obtain the best resolution performance of the camera.

PASM & Aperture Control Dials

Aperture Ring

You'll have immediate access to important camera controls with the DMC-LX7. If you are looking to create dramatic soft backgrounds with shallow depth-of-field, the newly designed aperture ring delivers direct, intuitive control of the aperture.

24mm* F1.4 shots

The bright, fast F1.4 lens gives you the power to shoot with higher shutter speeds to capture stunningly clear, sharp, blur-free images in lower light situations. The lens will also deliver a shallow depth-of-field resulting in softer, more pleasing backgrounds for some subjects.

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 28 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best point and shoot camera The best I ever had. Auto is spot on plus manual for more control. The lens is fantastic. Sharp, crisp photos. April 5, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by I like my old LX3 better I really like my LX7, don't get me wrong. It has some very nice features, especially in automatic IA mode. I owned a DMC-LX3 prior to purchasing my LX7 and after almost exactly one year, I am going back to my LX3. Maybe I'll regret... maybe I'll go for the newer LX-100K or something. Not sure. I do know that I don't see enough of a difference between the two, and the LX3 is just a little bit smaller and lighter than the LX7. The main thing that I like about the LX3 over the LX7 is that it has a "starry night" feature that I really like, which lets you take very, very long exposures (60 seconds) to capture night landscapes and the like. I hadn't sold my LX3, but now I'm selling my LX7. Either camera is great. The lenses on these small cameras rival much more expensive cameras. March 23, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Lowest Cost Serious Camera If you pick you camera by megapixels/dollar or how long the zoom is, then this is not your camera. If you recognize the value of fast optics, low noise, wide dynamic-range sensors, full manual aperture control and the ability to save off in RAW instead of JPG, then this camera should definitely capture your attention. This is a nearly perfect 2nd carry instead of your full DSLR rig. It's a little larger than a true pocket size, but in exchange you get an incredible Leica f/1.4 7-17.7mm lens, meaning you don't need flash for most photos - which is a good thing on many levels. I have used this for fireworks - capturing some images that were publishable, much to my amazement, for candid use, and much more. The 'miniature' setting actually works, but it's hard to see on the otherwise impeccable view screen. My only disappointements are the lens doesn't fully retract, making it a little bulky, and that the add-on optical viewfinder at $150 is kind of spendy. However, if you understand the tradition of the Leica 35mm rangefinder and want a modern digital equivalent that won't break the bank, this is it. March 23, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Takes better pictures than I usually do The camera is a great system and has many accessories to get that picture you want. The lack of viewfinder and the proprietary cable to hook to my PC was perturbing and a little annoying, but I knew what I was getting into when I got it. Build quality is first class, the lens is fast and clear. Navigation on the menus takes some getting used to, but that's nothing new for a new camera. November 26, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by LUMIX DMC-LX7 - THE ONLY CAMERA YOU EVER NEED! I have been using digital cameras since they were announced. I have had many point-and-shoot models and five (5) DSLR's. A professional photographer friend of mine showed me pictures he took in Italy with the original LX7...they were outstanding! He also mentioned that there was a newer version available, but with a faster f/1.4 lens. I purchased the new version shortly after talking with him. The results were outstanding! Most of the time no flash is needed with the fast lens speed. About four weeks later, I sold my DSLR, three lens, and two flashes. The LX7 is now my only digital camera I use...and I carry it with me everywhere. November 26, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Big bang for little buck! No camera can be all things to all shooters. It's a fallacy of logic. That being said, sometimes manufacturers get closer to perfection than not with a model. Such is the case with the LX7. For the price, size, speed and resolution it's the perfect (good) storm. Yes, the filter ring is finicky and odd. Yes the flash is underhelming, blah, blah blah. On the other hand, it makes fantastic point-and-shoot photos. Focus is fast enough, light sensitivity due to a very fast lens is AWESOME.....i.e. less blur in low light. The flash, up close, is deadly accurate for just enough pop. Video looks spectacular. This camera makes the worst, least seasoned, shooter look good almost all the time becasue of it's auto modes. Example, my spouse, now, uses it to shoot all her ebay items she sells. Again, typically, in an auto mode and the results are SO MUCH BETTER than her prior attempts. BEST OF ALL, if you want to push it to it's limits, you got manual overrides out the wazoo. That is why I love this camera. I can tuck it away in a small pocket (space) and when I'm in a situation where there is no place or time for a DSLR etc. I (literally) whip this one out and get a GREAT SHOT....uasually in one of the auto modes. Think, THE BEST pocket TRAVEL CAMERA out there if you need something closer to "all things to all shooters". August 28, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by A very worthy successor to the LX5 I shoot mostly live music stills along with the occasional video. The compact size makes it so I can take this camera into places that disallow larger "pro" cameras. The f1.4-f2.3 lens is a leap in the right direction. I've printed spectacular 16x20 and 18x24 prints. For an eight hour festival, I shot over 2350 photos on two batteries (flash & video not allowed). I commonly get complimented on my photos pasted on facebook. Proposed next version: 20mm wide equivalent, f1.4-f2.0, 20MP, 6x zoom. Wider is most important, then keeping the aperture the same, then more megapixels then zoom. All with a very sharp focus. Other requests are an electronic remote shutter release, get rid of all ring functions (put in menus instead), a durable, self retracting lens cap and a salient, fixed, shaped flash close to the lens (even in the lens shoulder if possible - even better to have 4 smaller ones, one at each quadrant) - controlled by the menu (and a button). August 17, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Lumix LX9 to include a 24-480mm lens? More than a review, this is a request to Panasonic.... this camera has too many great functions to make it very complex, it takes time to get use to it. I have a request and it is the zoom range... add the zoom range that has been included in the Lumix ZS30..... a 24-480mm zoom lens... that way one camera will do it it all in my pocket and I won''t need to carry more than just this camera... since the image quality is amazing. coupled with a water casing and it becomes the perfect camera to carry everywhere .... lumix LX9..... Please Panasonic , let me dream of this. November 12, 2013
