for masonry, metal and wood drilling and fastening
Construction professionals who drill holes and drive fasteners into wood, metal or concrete need a cordless hammer drill and driver with the power to tackle a variety of hole sizes plus the compact size to get into tight work spaces. The 21.6-volt EY7960LZ2S hammer drill kit (EY7960X tool only) excels at the variety of jobs electricians, general construction contractors, system installers and heating, water and sanitation technicians do that involve masonry, metal or wood drilling or fastening. At only 5.61 lbs. with the battery, the tool has the power for most every drilling/driving job on the jobsite.
At only 9-5/8” long x 10-1/16” tall x 2-15/16” wide, the compact tool delivers 575 in. lbs. of torque and capable of drilling up to ½”-diameter holes in metal or masonry or up to 2-9/16”-diameter holes in wood. The two-speed transmission produces 100-400 rpm/1,800-7,200 bpm in low speed and 350-1,500 rpm/6,300-27,000 ipm in high speed. The variable speed and reversible tool has the power to efficiently drill holes and drive fasteners in a variety of materials.
Workers can select one of 16 clutch settings, which steps up 3.0 in. lbs. increments from 8.8 to 61 in.-lbs., to match torque to fastener driving needs.
An electric brake stops the heavy-duty keyless chuck immediately when the trigger is released; an LED light illuminates the work area for accurate drilling or fastening.
Tough and long-lasting battery packs
The tool, powered by Panasonic’s 3.1Ah 21.6-volt cobalt "Z" Li-ion battery pack, is designed to deliver high output with low heat generation. The design provides twice the lifetime total performance vs. current Ni-Cd battery packs. The kit comes with the EY0L81B charger and two 21.6-volt battery packs. Using the supplied charger, the battery can be charged to a usable level in 55 minutes and fully charged in 70 minutes.
Tough tools for tough conditions
The EY7960X cordless hammer drill and driver has an IP56 rating that proves the tool’s toughness claims. This rating means the tool has withstood demanding laboratory tests of working in extremely dusty work environments and the effects of water getting sprayed on the tool by powerful jets. In the field, it assures professional tradesmen have a tool that can stand up to the rigors of hard jobsite use.
The IP rating is established by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and is outlined in IEC 60529. The standard outlines a coding system that indicates the degree of protection an electrical machine’s enclosure offers internal components. Based on objective testing, it assigns a rating to the enclosure’s ability to keep potentially damaging solid foreign objects (dust and contaminants) and water out of the tool under increasingly difficult conditions.
The dust protection test subjects the tool to a very dusty environment and then puts it to work to assure the tool was unaffected by dust exposure. In the grueling test, the tool proved that it achieved a dust protection level of five out of six levels; the sixth level is for dust-tight tools. It’s a good indication that the tool’s design keeps potentially harmful contaminants out, assuring long life and top performance that professionals demand.
Similarly, the water protection test put the tool up against increasing levels of water exposure. It attained a six out of eight levels rating, withstanding the effects of powerful water jets.
Whether it’s extremely dusty work conditions or work in damp or wet locations, users will appreciate a tool that will keep working when others would likely fail. Consult the safety and operating instructions for more information.
