Tough IP™ Li-ion 21.6-volt 3.1Ah Cordless 1/2” Drill and Driver Kit
For heavier drilling/driving jobs in plumbing, electrical and general construction work Electricians, plumbers, finish carpenters and general construction professionals sometimes need a tool that’s built extra tough because their jobs require the power to repetitively make holes through wood or metal. The Panasonic EY7460LZ2S (EY7460X tool only) ½” drill and driver kit is built to take on the tough, repetitive tasks. The 21.6-volt, 3.1Ah tool delivers up to 575 in.-lbs. of full-time torque in low speed. Its new all-metal gear system is much more resilient than the plastic gears found in other professional-level tools. It can take the strain and stress of switching between high and low gears and so it lasts longer and requires fewer repairs. The motor’s fan design cools the tool, even under repetitive, high-power jobs. The variable speed allows workers to ease into drilling and fastening tasks for greater accuracy and less work surface damage. At only 9-1/8” long x 10-1/16” tall x 2-15/16” wide and 5.39 lbs. including battery, the tool can easily drill up to 1-1/2”-diameter holes in wood, or ½”-diameter holes in metal, or drive 3/8”-diameter wood screws or ¼”-diameter self-drilling screws. Its durable two-speed transmission allows workers to match drilling speed and power to the job. In low, it produces 100-400 rpm; in high, it produces 350-1,500 rpm. The 18-stage clutch can be set to engage from 8.8-61.0 in.-lbs. of torque in 3.0 in.-lbs. increments so the turning force can be fine-tuned to the job at hand. The tool has a built-in LED light that illuminates the bit and hole location, and an electric brake prevents drill run-on after the trigger has been released. The heavy-duty keyless chuck makes bit changes easy, yet holds securely during drilling and fastening operations.
Tough and long-lasting battery packs
The tool, powered by Panasonic’s 3.1Ah 21.6-volt Cobalt "Z" Li-ion battery pack. It is designed to deliver high output with low heat generation, providing twice the lifetime total performance vs. current Ni-Cd battery packs. The kit comes with the EY0L81B charger and two 21.6-volt battery packs. Using the supplied charger, the battery can be charged to a usable level in 55 minutes and fully charged in 70 minutes.
Tough tools for tough conditions
The EY7460LZ2S/EY7460X ½” drill and driver kit has an IP56 rating that proves the tool’s toughness claims. This rating means the tool has withstood demanding laboratory tests of working in extremely dusty work environments and the effects of water getting sprayed on the tool by powerful jets. In the field, it assures professional tradesmen have a tool that can stand up to the rigors of hard jobsite use. The IP rating is established by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and is outlined in IEC 60529. The standard outlines a coding system that indicates the degree of protection an electrical machine’s enclosure offers internal components. Based on objective testing, it assigns a rating to the enclosure’s ability to keep potentially damaging solid foreign objects (dust and contaminants) and water out of the tool under increasingly difficult conditions. The dust protection test subjects the tool to a very dusty environment and then puts it to work to assure the tool was unaffected by dust exposure. In the grueling test, the tool proved that it achieved a dust protection level of five out of six levels; the sixth level is for dust-tight tools. It’s a good indication that the tool’s design keeps potentially harmful contaminants out, assuring long life and top performance that construction or maintenance professionals demand. Similarly, the water protection test put the tool up against increasing levels of water exposure. It attained a six out of eight levels rating, withstanding the effects of powerful water jets. Whether it’s extremely dust work conditions or work in damp or wet locations, users will appreciate a tool that will keep working when others would likely fail. Consult the safety and operating instructions for more information.
