The FH27 features a large 3.0-inch touchscreen LCD display with 230,000-dot resolution. The Intelligent LCD technology automatically adjusts brightness levels in 11 steps, according to the shooting conditions. Images are displayed with crisp detail and vibrant color, in virtually all situations including nighttime and bright daylight.
The 8x optical zoom lens from Leica delivers superior natural results from long-range shooting, while the 28mm wide-angle makes it easy to capture expansive landscapes, large groups of people or architectural structures with rich detail and perspective - even from short distances. The DMC-FH27 is equipped with Panasonic's exclusive Intelligent Resolution technology, which extends the camera's zoom ratio by 1.3x, to approximately 10x; picture quality is never compromised, even when combined with digital zoom. Zoom power can be extended even further with the Extra Optical Zoom, which lengthens the zoom to 18x by engaging the middle part of the FH27's large CCD.
When zoom speed matters, the Easy Zoom button is a life-saver. Just one touch of the conveniently located button increases the FH27's zoom power to its 8x maximum; a second quick touch engages the Extra Optical Zoom for instant 18x power.
The very capable Venus Engine offers high-speed performance for better quality image signal processing. Images are recorded with stunning clarity and virtually no noise interference. Noise reduction is applied to luminance noise and chromatic noise independently so that images are reproduced with minimal noise up to an ISO of 1600 at full resolution. This is especially beneficial for nighttime shooting or when using the camera in dimly lit interiors.
Panasonic has re-engineered its Sonic Speed AF for the FH27, offering new enhancements such as a faster actuator, parallel software processing and optimized algorithms for more accurate auto focus performance. Focusing is also approximately 42% faster with the FH27 than its predecessor, allowing for sharper focus on subjects in motion.
Intelligent Resolution image processing technology on the FH27 is enabled by the Venus Engine. Three distinct areas are automatically detected in every image: detailed textures, outlines and soft gradation areas. Optimal signal processing is enacted on each area, creating uniform sharpness and precise pixel-by-pixel signal processing to create the best possible images in virtually all shooting conditions.
The DMC-FH27 has a 1/2.33-inch CCD with 16.1-megapixel HD resolution. Images are always sharp and precise, regardless of output size. The FH27 supports images as large as 594 x 420mm - large enough to show an adult's head and shoulders or a newborn infant in actual size - and as small as 127 x 89mm at 3-megapixel resolution with near perfect fine detail and clarity. Photos can be cropped or trimmed as desired with no discernible reduction in quality.
Novice photographers will love the Intelligent Auto feature of the FH27. It's never been easier to snap incredible pictures with perfectly optimized settings; iA Mode automatically detects everything from ambient lighting, to focus, to deliver the best possible camera settings for any shooting situation. You just point and shoot and the FH27 does the rest. Intelligent Resolution is always activated in iA Mode, so you always get high quality images. And with six different detection and correction functions as well as 10x Intelligent Zoom, you can shoot with confidence anytime, anywhere.
How many times have you tried to capture a great moment only to find that what you thought was a perfect picture is nothing but a blurred mess? This is common with many digital point-and-shoot cameras. Shaking hands when the shutter is pressed or insufficient light conditions can make images appear clouded or blurry. With this camera you will never have to worry about hand-shake again, thanks to the FH27's MEGA Optical Image Stabilizer. MEGA O.I.S automatically detects movement and corrects it in the lens, at an impressive sampling frequency of 4000 times per second. Focusing your camera to capture action shots can be extremely difficult, and getting active subjects like children or animals to hold still so you can take a picture can be nearly impossible. With AF Tracking you get totally automated focus on your chosen subject until you press the shutter; you'll no longer have to press the button halfway down over and over again to adjust the focus or settle for fuzzy, poor image quality. AF Tracking makes is possible to catch all those once-in-a-lifetime moments at special occasions like weddings, sporting events and live performances, as well as great candid photos of your kids, your pets or your friends at play.
For even greater motion detection, the FH27 has Intelligent ISO Control technology. Powered by the Venus Engine, Intelligent ISO picks up subject movement and ambient lighting and automatically optimizes the camera's ISO setting and shutter speed in order to capture the best possible image. When Intelligent ISO detects subject movement, it instinctively increases ISO and shutter speed to prevent blurring; when subjects are motionless, Intelligent ISO compensates by lowering ISO and shutter speed for beautiful portraits and stills. Because you never have to make manual adjustments to ISO, you have the freedom to point and shoot at anything that catches your eye, whether it's static or in motion.
One of the most innovative features on the FH27 is its smart touchscreen LCD control. Several camera functions can be controlled simply and easily right on the display screen.
Taking pictures just got a whole lot simpler thanks to the FH27's sensitive touchscreen shooting function. Subjects are immediately brought into focus when you touch the image on the screen, and shutter release and auto focus can be operated from the LCD display, so you never have to take your eyes off the frame to get clear, sharp pictures. On-screen icons are easy to understand and images are captured just as accurately as if you were using the shutter button.

With touch-control AF you only have to tap your desired subject on the LCD to optimize the camera settings, allowing you to create interesting shots with ease and confidence. Touch-control AF is also very handy when you need to single out a particular subject from a larger group; you only have to touch the person or object on the screen that you want to make the focus of your picture - perfect for capturing kids' school performances, dance recitals, sports and more. When touch-control AF tracking is engaged, the camera locks on your desired subject and follows it as it moves, constantly readjusting the focus until you activate the shutter.
Change camera settings on the fly by using touch-control iA Mode. You can easily switch from manual control or a specific scene mode to Intelligent Auto with a quick touch, making it possible to get the best setting for the conditions, instantly and effortlessly.
When you need to review photos or videos quickly, you can access touch-control playback on the DMC-FH27. You get not only superior shooting results, but also outstanding playback quality on the 3.0-inch LCD. Just drag your finger across the screen to browse through your photo library or touch and drag any area of an image to zoom in. The FH27 lets you take amazing portraits and group shots with its intuitive Face Detection technology. The camera can pick up 15 faces at once, automatically adjusting focus and exposure so they are optimized for every shot. Face Detection prevents the blurring of faces that can occur when a camera inadvertently focuses on an object in the foreground or in the background. It also prevents faces from looking too dark when you shoot indoors or against a strong backlight, and the digital red-eye correction ensures you always get attractive, natural-looking results. Even if your subjects turn away from the camera, Face Detection stays engaged so you get stunning portraits from almost any angle.
It's easy and convenient to get optimum results wherever you are with the FH27's Intelligent Scene Selector. When the camera is set to iA Mode, Intelligent Scene Selector automatically detects the shooting conditions and chooses the most appropriate scene mode. Unless you're a professional photographer, getting lighting conditions just right can be tough. With Intelligent Exposure, you don't have to worry about setting lighting or arranging your subjects around a light source. Areas of your images that are too dark are automatically brightened, part-by-part, so only those areas are impacted; the rest of the picture stays balanced.
