Worried me at first but now I cant live without it I suffer from a multitude of constant back pains/aches and this chair has completely changed my idea of day to day life. At first I'll admit the intensity worried me, especially on the lower back, but as I used the chair more and more I was able to increase the intensity over time and get used to it. I was really worried at first because I woke up quite sore after I tried a few sessions with the chairs foam pad flipped back (deep tissue mode). I thought I had wasted A LOT of money. However, a friend of mine specializes in Deep Tissue massage and after he tried it he said it was the best massage chair he's ever sat in and most comparable to an actual deep tissue therapy session that he would do on a customer. He mentioned to me that soreness is actually to be expected 24-72 hours after a good deep tissue therapy. This is because deep tissue is removing built up toxins from the muscles and as most toxins are expelled some of them do resettle and cause soreness. It's always recommended to drink a lot of water after a deep tissue to help expel these toxins. Keeping up with the therapy will help to reduce the amount of toxins and so overtime allow the user to take a deeper intensity and also get less and less sore as more of the therapy is used frequently. I use the chair everyday for at least one session (16min). I started on the minimal intensity (1) and now I can handle intensity 5 (max). It has made SUCH a HUGE difference in my day to day. Before I was often tense and had minimal range of motion, suffering from constant aches in the neck, shoulder, and low back region. It made it hard for me to do a lot of normal things like exercise, garden, even the simplest of things caused me pain, including sitting at my desk for long periods of time. But now after really using this chair everyday at least once my pain is pretty much gone completely. I have much more range of motion than I did before and I find myself able to partake in day to day activities that I once thought impossible. This chair changed my life. Yes it is very intense, but that is what deep tissue is meant to do. Work through it, and if it is still too intense the foam pad that flips over the rollers really does make a huge difference and makes the chair feel more like a luxury massage, instead of a deep tissue therapy. I think I tried every chair on the market, including Inada chairs, before buying and this was definitely the best, for my needs at least. Also I love how it doubles as a power recliner and is a comfortable sit without the massage mode on. Most chairs that I sat in, although offered a good massage, were uncomfortable to just sit. They really weren't usable as a normal chair and that made the world of difference especially when considering placement in my house. Really a top notch product. If you are looking for a massage chair, Panasonic is the way to go! This is by far the best money I've ever spent in my life with the biggest impact on my quality of life. Worth every penny and most definitely an investment in your health! March 23, 2015
Two years and still enjoying I bought this product over two years ago. Although it is not a good as a true professional massage it is available in your home, 24 hours a day and I enjoy it almost every night while watching TV. As noted by others it can be painful on the lower back but by moving the massage heads higher on the lower back with the direction wheel I find it certainly helps move any painful pressure to an area with more flesh than bone. Regarding the problem of the leg massage mechanism retracting, I cut a small piece of wood approx. 1.5"X1.5"X7" that I wedge in the leg unit between my legs, lengthwise up, pushed to the back of the leg unit when it is fully extended. This prevents the mechanism from retracting and makes for a more relaxing massage without straining to keep your legs fully extended (I am over six feet with long legs so need the full extension). I did have a problem in the first year of one of the air bag hoses falling off but service to my house was quick and the problem was corrected and the hose clamps that were placed on the hoses will hopefully prevent this from happening again. I hope these suggestions help. July 22, 2014
Painful lowerback massage and cramped leg position The upper back massage and chest stretch are pretty good. Unfortunately, when I attempt most automatic programs (ex. refresh), when it gets to the lowerback, it was so painful I could not continue anymore, even with the intensity set on 1. The leg position is cramped. It takes effort to stretch my legs out. When I relax them, the leg rests try to return to their original (position. Because of this, it is difficult to keep my legs optimally positioned, so sometimes only the bottom half of my legs are getting massaged. In addition, the foot pads are not comfortable. The arm massage only massages the lower half of my arms, and was not satisfying. My lower back was painful for several days after using the chair. It felt fine before I used the chair. Overall, I am disappointed. I recommend that someone try the chair in person before purchasing. December 19, 2013
Great Investment I bought this as a 50th birthday present for my husband, who suffers from sciatica and lower back pain. We got it 3 days ago and he has spent most of his free time in it (he loves the leg and pelvic stretch options). I was afraid I might have thrown my money away but I already feel it is one of the best investments I have ever made. The only improvement each of us would like to see is in the neck section - there is no support at all during many of the modalities and the strain sometimes detracts from the otherwise pleasurable experience. Also, the rollers cannot be adjusted enough to even touch the back of my neck. We have followed all of the instructions but haven't been able to improve this area. My husband, who is a tall man, also finds that the extendable footrest is a little too short and the spring mechanism pushes back so he is always working to keep his legs in the proper position. Aside from that, the rest of the massage features are absolutely awesome! I came out of that chair feeling like a limp noodle and had one of the most restful sleeps I've had in a very long time. Highly recommended if you feel you can splurge on a luxury item. March 2, 2013
