Reviews

Rated 2.8 out of 5 by 11 reviewers.
Rated 1 out of 5 DON'T BUY THIS A CUSTOMER OF MINE PURCHASED THIS VAC. CLOSE TO A YEAR AGO. HE MUST HAVE TAKEN CONSUMER REPORTS AT THEIR WORD, AS IT IS RATED #3 IN BAGGED CANISTERS. HAD I READ THESE REVIEWS I WOULD HAVE HIGHLY SUGGESTED HE NOT PURCHASE IT. THE (POOR) REVIEWS ARE VERY TRUE. THE VACUUM ALWAYS APPEARS TO POWER WAY DOWN TO ALMOST OFF ALL THE TIME WHEN USED ON ANY TYPE OF SURFACE. HAVE ALREADY REPLACED THE HEAD LIGHT BULB IN THIS TIME. I PROFESSIONALLY CLEAN HOUSES FOR 35 YEARS AND COULD SAY I HAVE MAYBE CHANGED ONE LIGHT BULB OUT OF ANY VACUUM I HAVE USED DURING THAT TIME. THAT WAS THE SECOND CLUE REGARDING THE POWER ISSUES. IN TRYING TO FIGURE OUT THE POWER ISSUES, OPENED UP BAG AREA TO CHECK FILTERS ONLY TO FIND THE ENTIRE AREA FULL OF DIRT AS WELL AS ALL THE FILTERS WERE IN TERRIBLE SHAPE. THIS IS DUE TO THE TERRIBLE BAG ATTACHMENT PIECE. THE BAGS DON'T SEAL CAUSING EVERYTHING TO JUST GO IN THE BAG AREA NOT IN THE BAG. AS FOR THE ELECTRICAL ISSUE, I GUESSED THAT TO BE IN POOR CONNECTION BETWEEN THE POWER HEAD BAR (TUBE) TO THE HOSE. IF PUSHED BACK AND FORTH IT CUT'S OUT POWER WHICH IS WHAT HAPPENS AS YOU VACUUM. NEEDLESS TO SAY, MY CUSTOMER HAS TAKEN THE VACUUM TO AN OUT OF TOWN PANASONIC DEALER TO BE FIXED. SHE TOLD ME THAT I WAS RIGHT ABOUT THE CONNECTION ISSUE AND WOULD BASICALLY END UP WITH A BRAND NEW VACUUM AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE MADE. HIGHLY SUGGEST PEOPLE RESEARCH THIS VAC BEFORE PURCHASE AND DON'T BUY IT IN THE LONG RUN. August 8, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Pretty nice We use this vacuum on linoleum, hardwood, as well as carpeted floors. So far we're getting good results with it. The basket to carry and change the bag outside is nice. The suction is more than adequate, as is the length of the power cord. The height adjustment is nice; it means that our 3-year-old son can participate in our cleaning activities! The smaller power brush has turned out to be useful on the stairs as well as when cleaning the inside of our vehicles. However, because it is powered by suction, it does not always provide adequate agitation power. It is also very easy to tip the canister over when cleaning stairs; I've resorted to holding the canister with one hand while operating the wand with the other. Other than that, there's really nothing to complain about. June 17, 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by Design flaw on bag connector This is a great vacuum in all aspects, with the exception where the bag connects to the basket housing. The paper cardboard from the bag is slightly forced to bend and it creates a disconnect between the bag and the vacuum-very poor design. Therefore the dust escapes, making the inside housing of the vacuum very dusty. The motor filter along with the exhaust HEPA filter will have to be cleaned/replaced often. This is not a HEPA vacuum when so much dust escapes the bag while vacuuming...... March 7, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent Vacuum for great performance & features The vacuum is solidly built, powerful, and not nearly as noisy as the Eureka 12-amp upright it replaces. The attachments click firmly in place and work as expected. The canister is not too heavy, and rolls well behind the hose. It is a good idea to play with some of the settings for height and suction (there are TWO places to adjust suction - an electric control in the handle as well as an old-fashioned manual hole in the aluminum hose that has a rotating plastic closure), as I have noticed a difference in the efficiency of the unit based on a little trial and error. It handles oriental rugs very well and picked up cat fur efficiently. It worked equally well on my wood floors, but again, only if adjust the height of the vacuum head using the control on the unit. The included HEPA vacuum bags are the heaviest quality I have ever seen. They are thicker than pillowcases and apparently quite expensive and hard to find. These are the MC-V295H bags (which are Type C-19) that come with the unit, and include an extra 2-pack in the box. A little research on Panasonic's own web site (Google: Panasonic C-19 vacuum bags# shows you can use any C-5 type bag including the much less expensive Panasonic MC-V150M that come 3 to a bag and are much less expensive than the MC-V295H bags. A little more research reveals that Kenmore and Panasonic vacuums are closely related #possibly one manufacturing the machines for the other?# and you can also use Kenmore C-19 or C-5 bags interchangeably, making the universe of choices much larger. The only mildly annoying feature is the included suction-powered furniture attachment #rotating brushes powered by the suction of the hose#, which comes with a holder that snaps over the aluminum hose. The holder is flimsy, and gets in the way on the hose. I leave it in the closet and bring it out to use in on the furniture when needed. The furniture attachment works very well, it is only the holder that is not well designed. I would have preferred that Panasonic find a way to integrate the furniture attachment into the body of the canister #even if it is external#, rather than hanging it off the hose. For the price of this vacuum, I would have also loved a feature which would have let me hang the hose and head on a hook in the closet. It is not as simple as buying a generic hook, because you don't want to crimp to hose and the center of gravity of the hose and head are awkward. But these are minor quibbles, and don't detract for the performance of the unit, which is exceptionally good. In summary, although this vacuum cleaner is expensive #it is Panasonic's top of the line canister, and only available on-line from Amazon or Panasonic direct), it received excellent reviews from Consumer Reports in 2014. I bought the vacuum based on reviews and reader feedback from several sites including Amazon, and am very pleased by its performance and quality of construction. Although it comes with a one-year warranty from Panasonic, you can buy an extended 3-year warranty from Square Trade on-line for $50. This is offered on Panasonic's web site when you register the vacuum cleaner. If you go to Square Trade's web site offers both the $50 three-year option as well as a five-year option for $99. You have 30 days to decide after you buy the unit. I have not yet decided. October 5, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by DISAPPOINTED TO BE DISAPPOINTED I bought this vacuum on line because it was rated very highly in a leading consumer guide. It is powerful, and provides excellent suction. The powered carpet brush head cleans rugs well. The canister is heavy and somewhat unwieldy, and the hose is stiff and fairly difficult to connect. These would be reasonable tradeoffs for the low price of the unit if the bag stayed in place. I found the correct bag for the model hard to identify, and even when I did, I find the bag works loose, with the suctioned dirt collecting instead inside the housing and clogging the screen protecting the motor. I have taken great care to insert the bags properly, but this seems impossible. Other Panasonic products have been very satisfactory, and other evaluations in the consumer resource accurate, so I am surprised by this exception, and surprised as well that the product is still on the market. Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent Vacuum I read a review elsewhere about the telescoping wand breaking easily. I am being very careful with it, and so far all is going well. September 22, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Surprisingly poor Very good attachments and controls and performs well, but it fails in one very important department - The dust won't stay in the bag and it's a big mess to change the bag. It's also spewing small amounts of dust from the chamber. I am surprised at such a poor dust bag attachment design from Panasonic. It would have been a decent vacuum cleaner otherwise. March 13, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Terrible electrical connections The cleaner has a MAJOR problem - when hose plugged into cannister, every time unit is pulled along the floor the power shuts off. Yes, the connection was firmly made. Not sure if this is a design flaw or just a bad unit. It will be sent back. Be aware of this problem!!! January 6, 2014
