Rated 4 out of 5 by OCOS My everyday lens!
If you need a lens you can leave on your camera most of the time, well you can't go wrong with this one. a 10x zoom this compact is a blessing.
It is sharp and the variable aperture is well handeld, the f/5.6 is not reach too early on the zoom range and the f/3.5 at the wide end is a nice addition.
It has it's limitations but you can easily get around them.
A great overall performer if you don't need a specific lens.

I like this lens but I don't love it. For the money I expect more - its a bit noisy, and not that great when shooting video. But, for stills, its good.

Rated 2 out of 5 POWER O.I.S.
This lens is absolutely unacceptable for video with POWER O.I.S. on.
I bought it with new G7 and was disappointed. When the O.I.S. is on, which is essential for handheld videography this lens gives a micro jitter and basically makes your shots as bad as having stabilization off. This issue has been discussed over internet since it's been released. And people mention it's POWER O.I.S. issue in particular. I'm surprised how panasonic went selling these lenses.

I have purchased this lens for my G6 and sold kit lens on ebay. Nice all around lens. Don't expect smooth operation for video zooming. Due to the small size of the total package I am able to carry my G6 with 14-140 attached without too much of a bulk. Prior to this I had FZ200. The overall size of this two cameras with this lens on G6 was almost the identical.

Rated 4 out of 5 Small but NOT Silent Lens
The LUMIX G VARIO 14-140mm / F3.5-5.6 ASPH. / POWER O.I.S. description says "Smooth, silent operation for both photo and video recording". My lens emits a constant whirring sound that is only silenced when the camera is turned off. Silent should mean silent.
I would like a silent lens.

I'll bet you are reading this to ask is it worth upgrading from the older sibling? Well yes, with caveats.
Even though I've had this barely two weeks, I shot 3000 photos and dozens of hours of video on vacation in a national park. Here's what I found:
First, you get incrementally better quality and incrementally better low light (at wider settings), but this is certainly no home run. However, considering it goes from 28-280mm in a single lens, we have to be realistic the laws of physics can only be pushed so far. Sharpness is really no better than the older version, although the longer end of the zoom range, sharpness is notibly better than the older version.
What you do get is significantly smaller form factor, very noticable weight loss, so much so even the GH3 is practical to carry all day using a Bino-buddy binoculars strap. The camera balances far better vs old version of this lens too. You also get a lens that will not extend itself as you move, something on the old lens was resolved with a fat rubber band. So for a general walkabout lens that is good performer in most situations this lens and the 7-14mm cousin are a great pair.
Finally, if you are concerned about the negative remarks, think about what your output will be. If you are only sharing on the internet, HDTV, photoframe, and computer, this lens should be a good option, but if you want to print 11x14's or larger on a regular basis, you would be better served by buying one or more of the of f2/8 lenses as they are far sharper than this lens. However, large prints are practical if you need them, just don't expect miracles.
This lens is a jack of all trades, master of none, but I find utility in such a well-rounded lens. My vacation travel kit is minimized. A camera you WANT to carry all day has a quality all it's own. Verdict: Keeper.
