The LUMIX G VARIO 100-300mm / F4.0-5.6 / MEGA O.I.S. telephoto zoom lens realizes 300mm (35 mm camera equivalent: 600 mm) handheld ultra-telephoto zoom shots with astonishingly compact and light weight profile. The LUMIX G VARIO 100-300mm / F4.0-5.6 / MEGA O.I.S. allows photographers challenge shooting subject they cannot draw near including sports, wild animals, aircrafts and so on without carrying a huge conventional ultra-telephoto zoom lens and a heavy tripod to set it on with high compression effect. Panasonic's MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) powerfully compensates for the hand shake which severely affect the zoom shots to suppress blur.

The new LUMIX G VARIO 100-300mm / F4.0-5.6 / MEGA O.I.S. is comprised of the lens unit with 17 elements in 12 groups including an ED lens. Adopting the ED lens in the first lens group, the chromatic aberration is effectively suppressed to render sharp, high contrast images with stable optical performance over the entire zoom range. The integration of stepping motor with exclusive zoom tracking control system and inner focus drive system realizes the use of accurate and high speed contrast AF, yet keeping its sound of action as silent as possible.

Seven blades give the aperture a rounded shape that produces an attractively smooth effect in out-of-focus areas when shooting at larger aperture settings. Highly reliable metal mount assures durability for active use, and uses multi-coated lens elements that minimize ghosts and flare to further enhance its shooting performance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Hasbinbad Suprisingly Sharp I bought this for its long reach for wildlife photos. I also use it on an olympus body. Autofocus speed and tracking are fair, but that is also dependent on the camera body. Image quality is excellent, I have taken images with this lens that rival National Geographic. There is some purple fringing, but it is mild and easily removed in Photoshop. The lens and camera fell on a hard dirty surface when a cheap plastic aftermarket clip broke, but both still worked fine afterwards, so I would say it is a durable lens. All in all, quite pleased with this lens. November 25, 2015

Rated 5 out of 5 by Kay Martinez Fantastic telephoto that gives superior image! I purchased this lens for my G5, in addition to my most favorite Panasonic 20mm f/1.7. These two combination of lenses covers mostly everything I want to shoot. I'm a semi professional nature photographer who normally use Canon camera body. I did not expect much from this telephoto lens when I purchased it rather than to reach some subject to shoot, but I was blown away by its image quality. Using this lens makes astrophotography/wild bird photography so much easier as it just gives me superior image without trying that much! This lens is fantastic for any nature photography, and it can also act as macro lens when shooting flowers and trees. Bokeh is really nice though widest aperture is f/4.0. To be able to have 600mm reach with this size of lens is so convenient for outdoor/travel photography. Can't do without it! November 17, 2015

Rated 5 out of 5 by Lee Great Lens! I use this lens on an Olympus body and it works great. I love the image stabilization OIS (I set my camera to use the len's stabilization first). I can handhold fully zoomed in and get sharp images even in less than ideal conditions. Auto-focus is fast considering the length and range of the lens. The most important feature is the outstanding image quality. I received the lens on a Friday and took it to an NFL training camp on Saturday. I started out with some blurry shots, but my technique improved and I was soon getting 4 out of 5 snaps. The color and rendering are excellent! I would choose this lens again without hesitation. I purchased the Lumix G3 last year and up until I received this lens I have been using the kit lens. I must say that this lens is sharper throughout the entire zoom range and auto focus is fast. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a fantastic zoom lens! December 8, 2012

Zoom ring is so stiff and so much pressure must be exerted to rotate the zoom ring that there is no way to zoom in or out while filming. Problems: Slow zooming is jerky and destabilizes image. Rated 5 out of 5 by spanky Super zoom! M4/3 cameras needed a big zoom lens and Panasonic has really delivered. Tack sharp through the whole range with no vignetting or chromatic aberration. AF is fast and quiet, OIS is fantastic, and coupled with the GH2 Extended Tele Conversion, it's a perfect wildlife super-zoom/telescope! January 8, 2011
