Reviews

DMP-BDT270M is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 24.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from A PAIN Just like many of the reviews, after having this unit for 6 months now, I am ready to throw it out. My wife and watch movies on Netflix or at least we try to. With this unit I never know if it's going to connect. I must have input my password for WIFI and Netflix 30 times by now. Like other reviewers I have completed all the updates to no avail. I honestly can't believe you still have this unit available for purchase. I have always been a Panasonic fan, but no more.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Have to unplug frequently Despite a handful of firmware upgrades, this unit is still unreliable. Whenever I want to use it, I have to first unplug it because it won't respond to the remote. It's close to a year old now, so I'm sending it back. If the replacement solves the problem, I'll re-review it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Best low-end Blu-ray + WiFi but culd b better I've tried three competitive Blu-ray + WiFi players and this one is a bit more expensive but decidedly the best of the lot. Sony one wasn't bad but needs to call home for Netflix so showstopper for me, Samsung was just plain pitiful esp remote, while LG wasn't bad but setup options were pitiful in that they are very limited esp network options. Every time the WiFi connection dropped, it was back to entering passcode again. In general I was surprised at the lack of hardened features that had passed some sort of ergonomics criteria. As I say in the title, this is the best of the low-end units. I'd say by far, except for perhaps Sony ... except it has a showstopper. Enuf about the competition, this one has a few quirks too: First, the remote: the NetFlix and Home buttons are too close to the navigation buttons. I can't count the number of times I hit the wrong button while attempting to use the on-screen keyboard to enter email and password details. Or navigating a DVD or Blu-ray menu and boom I hit the Netflix button by mistake. Rrrgggg! Real PITA esp since it takes forever to back out of Netflix or press the Home button and it's back to square one with whatever I was attempting to navigate. Speaking of that on-board keyboard, I don't understand why the number buttons couldn't be better coupled to navigation keys and/or R, B, Y, and B buttons to simplify keyboard entry (e.g. R followed by # button is that #, G button followed by # would be first letter shown on that # button, Y button dictates second letter showing, and B button dictates 4th letter showing). Also disconcerting is that some applications can use the # buttons but others can't. Standardized use across applications would make sense no? Of course same could be said for competitive units. Finally WRT the remote, why can't it allow operation of other TV brands? I mean, I can buy a generic remote and enter a code for a particular brand and voila it works, so why can't the blu-ray remote allow the same? I know, someone might be prompted to buy a Panasonic TV to get rid of a remote. No, I don't think so. Instead I might buy a particular blu-ray player if I can ditch the TV remote! The Blu-ray and DVD playing experience is great but then I'd expect it to be so since this is first and foremost a Blu-ray player. Just one nit and that would be the ability to skip over all commercial content and present the primary movie options straight away. I also found the Netflix experience to be outstanding. Great interface there all the way ... well except for the fact that if hitting the Netflix button by accident, it can't be aborted except by using the Home button. As for the many other apps available, I didn't even realize they were there at first! That's how well-hidden they are. That said, there's an outstanding selection of applications and a great management interface. I little difficult remembering how to get back to those apps though. It would be great to have a remote button or two to quick link to those apps. WRT to playing CDs, I find it a PITA that CDs inserted won't start playing straight away and there's no option to change that. I have to wait for the paler to read the disc and present the tracks display before I can command it to play the disc. Also sometimes the track display doesn't show properly also doesn't always show that track 1 will be next to play One aspect I find somewhat puzzling in the CD info, rather the lack of it. There's no song info showing, i.e. artist and song. Surely that could be displayed on-screen! A few other nits like sometimes the unit seems to go to never-never land and even the eject button won't work for several seconds. That doesn't happen often though so enuf griping. Overall a good unit but could use some improvements before an "Excellent" or "Outstanding" ranking is warranted. Dunno whether there's a user forum. I'll look for one but in case there's not and someone at Panasonic wants any details relating to my review, I've submitted my contact info below.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Buggy firmware, not reliable, AVOID I have had this player freezes on me many times, had to unplug it to reset it and even then it doesn't work all the time. Haven't played blu-ray disc on it, mostly just watch netfix and youtube, where it falters badly. Player also feels cheaply made. Avoid at all cost.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Quality not as expected I have owned several smart TV and DVD players and have always had really good experiences with all of them. This particular model is riddled with all sorts of bugs and instability issues. I am now on my second player since the first one completely froze up and unplugging it did not let it come back up. I am about to return the second one since the factory reset is also not working. Even the reset is buggy so that is no longer an option.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from We have had a 55" Panasonic for 8 trouble-free years. Why would we shop anywhere else ? Great product , free shipping, we are again most impressed. Should our 55" TV fail......we will again shop for another Panasonic.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from packaging could be better The Blue-Ray player that I bought exceeded my expectations. My only disappointment was that a detailed user's manual didn't come with it. I had to download it and print a copy. I expect all electronic devises to come with a detailed user's manual. Maybe to the younger generation, the details on how to use these new devices is self-evident, but that is not the case with us older folks!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from When looking for a Blu-ray player. Look no further. This Panasonic Blu-ray Player (model number DMP-BDT270PS) packs a punch in being a versatile multimedia player. Upon start-up for the very first time, GUI (Graphics User Interface) menu system was really easy to configure. Just follow the steps and you will be up and running in a just few minutes. Since this is a smart Blu-ray player, you can have it hooked up to the internet in you desire. You also have two choices from wired to wireless internet connection. After the internet is connected, you can use the built in Web Browser to surf the web or use its apps. Some of these apps are Amazon Instant Video, Hulu Plus, CinemaNow, YouTube, Vudu, Pandora, Facebook, Twitter and many more. If you’re a subscriber to Netflix, the remote control has a dedicated button to Netflix. Beside the apps, in front of the Blu-ray player, you have a USB 2.0 port. You can hook up a USB flash drive or hard drive. Using the USB port, you can view pictures, listen to music and watch movies. Here are several formats that this Blu-ray player supports (MP3, MP4, Mpeg-2, MKV, Xvid, WAV, WMA, AAC, FLAC, ALAC, JPEG, MPO and DSD). Also, this player has a built in Miracast and DLNA. If you have an Android Tablet or Android Mobile Phone you can use the Miracast to mirror what is on your Tablet or Mobile Phone onto your television screen. It’s a really neat feature for Android users. When booting up a Blu-ray movie disc. It’s starts up quickly. You don’t have to wait. Since I don’t have a 4K HDTV, I couldn’t test out the 4K upscaling. But I do have a HDTV 3D LCD. So I tested the 3D viewing with Tron Legacy 3D on the player. The 3D worked flawlessly. Overall, this versatile smart multimedia Blu-ray player does it all. It boots up fast, loads quickly and it’s simple to use. I highly recommend this Panasonic smart Blu-ray player to anyone. You won’t be disappointed at all.
