Panasonic System Communications Company of North America, a leading provider of integrated security and surveillance solutions, today announced a new camera available in one of its most popular iPRO SmartHD 360° Network Cameras line. The new Full HD 1080p network camera (WV-SF448) is Privacy-Ready, featuring an opaque eyelid that can be closed to enable a privacy mode that completely obscures the lens providing full surveillance privacy in hospitals, schools or other specialized applications.  In these special circumstances, where surveillance needs must be balanced with privacy requirements, Panasonic’s WV-SF448 enables video capture and recording to be completely obscured.

The Privacy Mode allows users at certain facilities to protect privacy as needed by hiding the lens that’s inside the camera and preventing camera images from being seen. When Privacy Mode is activated, the live image changes to a black display and JPEG images attached to “alarm image” transfers, “FTP image” transfers and “email transfers” also change to black throughout the recorded video stream. The Privacy Mode is simple and quick to engage and can be activated using a Privacy button in the video management system setup menu, remotely by accessing the camera from a smartphone or mobile device, via alarm input or through an external switch. For example, if there is an incident in a classroom the teacher can open the camera shutter and activate recording in real time, or the camera itself can activate automatically in response to an external life safety event such as a fire or lock-down situation.

“With the addition of the Privacy Ready capability, installers can offer more options to their customers in markets with specialized requirements,” said Charlie Hare, Panasonic’s National Category Manager, Security and Mobile Video Solutions. “In situations like these, where surveillance may need to be turned on or off, we are providing a high-quality, high-performance Full HD 360° camera that can be controlled quickly and easily through a software menu, alarm input or even from a mobile device.”

The iPRO SmartHD 360° Network Cameras are equipped with a 3.1 megapixel high sensitivity MOS sensor, creating high resolution 3 megapixel JPEG (2048 x 1536) and Panasonic high profile H.264 compression Full HD (1920 x 1080) 30fps images to meet a wide range of surveillance requirements. JPEG/H.264 multiple streaming transmission is also supported. The Privacy Mode adds to the already comprehensive features of the WV-SF448 camera, including a wide range of image modes; built-in image and distortion correction; Super Dynamic Function; and 2-area Variable Image Quality of Specified Area (VIQS). The Camera also offers SDXC memory card for edge recording; motion detection and Panasonic alarm protocol notification; two-way audio and a Privacy Zone mode.

The WV-SF448’s built-in microphone allows sound occurring near the camera to be recorded together with the images, as well as the ability to achieve two-way communication, if desired. Additional features include the Privacy Zone capability—not to be confused with the opaque eyelid covering the lens in Privacy Mode—which enables up to four privacy zones within the surveillance area to be masked. The masked area does not appear on the monitoring screen and is not recorded in the data stored on the recording platform.

Panasonic’s 360° network cameras are particularly advantageous to both the installer and end user. Because they provide a full panoramic field of view with multiple viewing modes, they can deliver full coverage of a surveillance area with one 360° camera, eliminating blind spots and the need for multiple cameras in high traffic locations. The new Full HD 1080p 360° Privacy-Ready vandal dome network camera (WV-SF448) is well-suited for classrooms, athletic centers, interrogation rooms, hospitals, gyms and other areas where discretion is required.

Panasonic’s wide range of security solutions for businesses, schools, healthcare facilities, government and transit organizations will be on display at ISC West 2015, April 15-17, in Las Vegas, booth 14039.

Pricing and Availability

The Privacy-Ready 360° Network Camera (WV-SF448) is available now through authorized Panasonic resellers at an MSRP of $1,436.
